DH and I played raquetball today and he hit the ball into my nose. I heard a crack, but my nose doesn't hurt, isn't swollen, and didn't bleed. Actually, it hurts more under my left eye than my nose itself. But now I think my nose is a little crooked, and DH says I'm crazy.
Should I go to my doctor to have her look at it?

Re: Is there a doctor in the house?
I'm not a doctor but I say yes. Did you ice it? If not ice it right away. You can also try taking Advil or Motrin for pain and swelling. It's probably already swollen which is why it looks crooked. Things like that can take awhile to heal and look normal again. I would DEF see a doctor and either have xrays taken, or see what they say. They will probably be able to feel and see if anything's broken. Good luck!!!

Please go get checked out. I don't want to scare you but you could have broken something other than your nose. You don't want to mess around with swelling that may happen under your eye.

Re: Is there a doctor in the house?
So FYI, I'm going to try to go on Saturday because I am leaving for Boston tomorrow for a grad school interview. But of course, just my luck, I had a soccer game today and got hit in the nose on the OTHER SIDE. So if anything was out of place now it got knocked back in.

I don't want to scare you but i am a nurse and just from my experience i would highly recomend an ER visit. The reason i say this is because you may have broken another bone like your occipital bone which is the bone near the eye. Also do not take advil or motrin because it promotes bleeding .I know you said you were not bleeding but there could be blood behind the break especially if it is not a clean break. If there is pain i would recomend tylenol and only tylenol! My fiance had a similiar incident and when he called me he said he thought everything was fine after a lengthy convo and me pleading with him he went to the ER and found out he had a hyphema which is a bloodclot in the eye. Not to serious but serious enough . SO please go get it checked ,i may just be an over cautious nurse but it is better to be safe then sorry. And if you won't go to the doctor now make sure you can breathe clearly through each nostril. Because that can be an indication of something being wrong. Good luck ,i hope you are ok.

Isn't the occipital bone in the back of the head?

scratch:
Yes the occipital bone is in the back of the head. It is the area of the just above the base of the skull. I think she may have been referring to the orbital.

Thanks for the info, I can breathe through both nostrils ok. I definitely want to go to the doctor. But do you think I should go straight to the ER on Saturday or go to the doctor instead? I would go today, but I need to leave in 2 hours.

Thanks! I'm interviewing at a professional school of psychology to get into their PsyD program (I'm in the process of applying for Clinical Psychology PhD and PsyD programs).
So this is interview #1, and I'm super nervous. At least today I didn't wake up with a nasty bruise. I was afraid I'd have raccoon eyes, but I'm ok. No swelling either. Just feeling a little sore.
