i had to get on here and ask for opinions before i explode. please tell me what you guys think of this and what you would do.
dh and i, my brother and his gf are driving to boston for my cousin's twins' 1st bday party. we're staying overnight ($75 per couple) plus gas, food etc.
i get an email from my other cousin (the brother of my cousin) saying 'Hey cousin!
I hear both you and your brother are coming to the twins' first birthday party. EXCELLENT!
Don't know if you've thought about a gift yet - Ellen and I have been discussing what the twins will need as life goes on. Turns out they have already outgrown the stroller they've been using! Ellen has found this new stroller on-line she likes very much (link below) and we thought maybe you and Jeff could chip in for it, if you haven't already gotten the kids something:
the stroller is $200! probably plus shipping! i'm like are you friggin kidding asking us to buy a specific gift???
keep in mind this couple drove from boston to our wedding AND DIDNT GIVE US A GIFT. we went to theirs in Philly AND GAVE A GIFT!!!
is this the ultimate chutzpah or am i missing something??????????

i just don't get it. how is it ok to ask for a gift? ever? do people really think that if more and more people do it that it'll become socially acceptable?

Re: is this the ultimate ball$$?
I think it is really rude to REQUEST a specific gift...especially one that pricey!!!!
I have heard of people registering which I don't think is necessarily a bad thing bc a lot of people ask 'what should I get for the baby's bday' so it's like 'oh we made a wish list, but feel free to buy whatever you like' I don't see anything wrong with that.
But your situation is totally rude Im sorry

I would never do that; just to my mom and DH, but other relative and friends, no way...she has BIG BALLS. Just give her what you want.

Wow! Ballsy isn't the word. I would just ignore the email and give whatever you were going to give.

thanks for all the support!! I ended up getting them custom baby music cd's with their names sung in them. $20.00 each. so $40. i think thats fine, and if they dont like it they can go screw.
i just heard another cousin is driving up from long island to boston for the party for the DAY and he just lost his job so i'm wondering what they ASKED HIM FOR!!!!!
