Is your DH handy?

Is your DH handy?

Just wondering if anyone else's hubby is as clueless as mine when it comes to doing/fixing things around the house! He's good as far as painting or hanging up small things... but he isn't really handy with tools or doing anything outside. Maybe I'm spoiled b/c my dad is the ultimate handyman... he's a woodworker, can build and/or fix pretty much anything, and keeps a flawless landscape. Maybe my DH will eventually grow into these things (we HAVE only owned a home for 7 months)... but right now... we still call our dads for help!

This week I painted the house, hung pictures, and shelves and fixed some broken things around the house because I finally got myself a drill. DH is pretty much clueless and Ive always had a knack for doing handy things. I dont know why! I even hook up all the electronics!

I guess that's one thing I have to give him credit for... he's good with electronics and computer stuff. But it pretty much ends there!

Re: Is your DH handy?

mine isn't that handy... he's *alright*... but it's like pulling teeth to get him to do anything.

My father is like yours.. the ULTIMATE handyman... He'll do something for you before you evenASK him to...

for example... when I first moved into my apt the ol' b*stard went in and put in new kitchen counters, and redid the tile on the floor of the kitchen... he did the same thing for my previous apt...

I was pretty spoiled having him as a dad... it's not fair to DH when I get upset with him for not being like *wally*

my sister, on the other hand, married a guy JUST LIKE MY FATHER

lucky...

Re: Is your DH handy?

Ha, yeah I owe a lot to my dad... he has built us furniture (coffee table, end tables, framed mirror, etc) and helped us out so much since we bought our condo. I just wish it would rub off a little more on DH! He does help and he tries to watch how he does things, but I just don't think it's in his genes.

However, if anybody buys a new TV, iPod or video game console... he's your man!!!!!!!!!

i must say i am very lucky dh is super handy he just remodeled our bathroom, he layed the tile, did the plumbing for the toilet and the sink. and everything else

he is also in the process of doing our basement, i cant even imagine how much money he has saved us.

my DH?

handy!?

i'm just like you...i grew up with the world's most handiest dad. the man built our house from the bottom up! when DH can't fix a loose hinge or hang up a shelf, it makes me miss my daddy and all his skills

maybe it'll come to him one day seriously doubt it though! i think i'll have better luck at being handy than him!

Re: Is your DH handy?

My dad does EVERYTHING so DH falls a little short in that department LOL He DID basically build our apartment but following his dad's and my dad's directions.

My dad came upstairs for a few minutes the other day. He fixed our accordian pantry door, set up a water filter for the kitchen sink and ran an extension cord so the AC could be plugged into an outlet that wouldnt short

All things I have been asking DH to do for MONTHS!

Yes My husband is quite Handy.

I'm one lucky lady. He has saved us so much Money.
He and I installed new Windows.

We installed all new Interior and Exterior Doors.

Put up a new Garage door and opener

He also ran new electric and plumbing for our new Kitchen and installed the new cabinets.

He also installed a retaining wall for our Driveway.
Also, had 20 yards of Top soil to level off our Back yard.

oh my, I could go on and on.
Yeah hes pretty wonderful....and he is all mine

Re: Is your DH handy?

I WISH. Unfortunately not. My dad was always handy so I guess I'm used to not having to hire someone to do every little thing. We're buying a house, so now we're both going to have to become handy!

Does that answer your question? He can't even hang a picture without throwing the hammer three times....

Handy isnt the word. He can do and fix just about everything and I am not joking. I have never meet anyone who had so many skills.

DH is pretty handy.
He made a sink a one of our bathrooms, laid the tiles in another bathroom, and painted our house when we'd got it.
He's lazy, but good when he wants to be.

Re: Is your DH handy?

Mine built me a bathroom that made it to the top 10 remodels on This Old House.com.

Yes, he's handy.

But it's all he does. We live in a very old house and he is always working on it. I don't see him until 8:30pm at night and we both get home at 4:30. Every single day.

Handy Husband, it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Re: Is your DH handy?

Our dads are both pretty handy, though mine is a bit lackadaisical and DH's dad has bad timing. DH's dad ripped out one of the bathrooms in their house on Christmas Eve one year. My poor MIL

DH ... not so much right now ... I've been waiting 3 years for him to hang up our spice rack Its just leaning up against the wall on the counter.

I've given up hope that it will ever be on the wall in this apartment.

I think once we have a house he will grow into it.
