Re: Is Your DH handy around the house?
I had a stereotype in my head about academic types/highly educated men being totally useless when it came to being handy.
Imagine my surprise when I learned how good DH is at all that stuff! Was I ever wrong!

Same here. For my DH, it was necessity that developed his handyman skills. FIL is permanently disabled and as a result he can't do much around the house. DH and his brother were forced to learn a lot of repair and handy work. Good for us!

Re: Is Your DH handy around the house?
DH is incredibly handy, it's one of his redeeming qualities. But really, he has done tons of stuff around our house, from taking down wallpapaer and rdoing the walls, to helping tile our bathroom. The only thing he hasn't mastered yet is crown molding.

Mine is. He insists on doing everything himself - I feel like I married my dad sometimes!!!
Like Juliet's DH, I think a lot of it came out of necessity. His parents divorced when he was really young, so he and his brother had to do a lot of stuff around the house for his mom. He also had lots of odd jobs when he was in high school and college - like appliance delivery & hook up and stuff.

Mine is too. When we took the apartment, he painted all by himself, put down the new floor and did everything that had to do with being handy.

My DH cannot hang a picture straight no matter how much he tries. I like to tell him that his head is on crooked!

If it involves fixing a computer, he's pretty good. Otherwise, forget it! I'm the handy one around the house. I love buying tools

I am the SAME way. When my engineer-cousin, laid his own patio, I REALLY thought he was lying about it. But, his wife had pictures of him digging up the backyard and laying the stones himself.
Anyway, DH is good with some stuff, but saddly, I would not classify him as 'handy'
I am still teaching him how to fix a clogged toilette.

Re: Is Your DH handy around the house?
Yes, he is handy. I don't always love the job he does because he isn't the most careful or precise person when it comes to stuff like this. But overall he's pretty handy.
