Re: ISLIP

We're from Islip...moved around a bit but ended up back in...ISLIP!!

Are you thinking of buying a house? My parents are selling theirs. LOL They are retiring to North Carolina.

We have a train station...Babylon line I think. Plenty of 7-11's, pizzarias, good sushi place next town over.

I don't remember what else you wanted to know. In the 'town' you've got the Main Street with Starbucks to Lilly Flannigan's. We have Tellers to Port Royal. Every budget and just about every food type.

My gyno is in Islip too. LMAO

Would you know how long the commute is to Manhattan?

Humm a little over an hour I think.

Check out the LIRR schedule on line. My DH (before he got laid off) would drive to Babylon and park in a private parking spot. There were more trains that ran to Babylon than Islip.

We bought in East Islip. DH works for the LIRR and when he works in Penn he goes out of Babylon. It's about an hour and 10 minutes - there are quite a few express trains into Babylon though which is why he goes out of there.

Re: ISLIP

Born and raised in East Islip and live there now in the house DH and I bought. I love this town and Islip. I grew up a member of the Bayberry Beach and Tennis Club in Islip so I have tons of friends in Islip as well and spend a lot of time in that town too.

Great schools... I think EI schools are slightly better but both good districts with good music departments and sports programs.

Great towns and good food. Tons of pizza parlors, bagels, ice/ice-cream, irish bars, a variety of food and stores. Lots of local feeling. Islip & East Islip combined has a parade at least 3 times a year and tree lighting ceremonies at Christmas.

You have a town beach, Brookwood Hall park, the Arboretum and the Town of Islip has lots of recreational programs and access to many boat ramps with proof of residency. Hecksher State Park is in East Islip and has a lot of walking and running paths. Your also an easy drive to Robert Moses, close to the ferries to Fire Island, and a direct shot across the bay to Fire Island.

Getting to the city is a little tough though. From here you have to go out of Great River or Islip. You usually switch in Babylon for trains to NYC, though usually if you switch there you don't have to switch in Jamaica, Queens. There are a lot more trains out of Babylon and many direct, so you can go out of there, though parking is difficult where as its much easier at the Islip station.

But its a great town. Any questions just ask.
