Ive become obsessed!

With looking at houses online!!
Good thing yes, bad thing is im at work doing it!!
im seriously going to get in trouble! Between LIW, facebook and now this! Ugh! I just don't have enough time in the day to do my actual work!

I just wanna go look at them all in person right this second so I can determine if its worth me getting all worked up about!!!

Like this one house I found! I think I've fallen for it! But that happened with the first house I liked too! Loved it online, hated it in person! The quicker I see it the quicker I know if I should be wasting my time and energy fantasizing about me and DH living our happily ever after in it! LOL I even see our kids running around in the back yard! Yeah! I've lost it! I know!!

well im keeping my fingers crossed about this one that im already thinking about furniture for it! LOL!!!
its only been on the market for less than 3 weeks so i really hope its still there!

what areas are you looking at?

We’ve looked pretty much all over Nassau County… our ideal area is Massapequa Park but a lot of people must want to move there, bc every time we’ve put an offer on a house there it’s had at least 3 other offers!

But we’ve looked everywhere, East Meadow, Seaford, New Hyde Park, Bethpage… pretty much anywhere that isn’t TOO far south. And we seem to have the worst luck – we had an offer on a house in Floral Park that had been on the market for a year and a half, so we put in a semi-low offer… and then the next day someone put in an offer close to asking price!

yeah we are pretty much looking in the same areas, east meadow, bellmore, bethpage...
we live in massapequa now and i LOVE it over here!! I grew up in New hyde park and my parents and brother are there, and DH's mom is in floral park...i wanna be closer than we are now, with out going back to new hyde park..i use to always say i wanna live there my whole life, but its just sooo different now!

i really hope we never are both looking at the same house! lol

What's even more frustrating for us is that the areas we're looking at are some of the highest priced and highest taxed towns on the island But we've had the 'misfortune' of growing up in two of these towns, so it's really hard for us to want to stray from our comfort zone (St. James/Smithtown/Stony Brook for me, Dix Hills/Commack/Northport (east and village) for him). We just need to hit the lotto!

Yeah, we’re renting in Floral Park now and I really love the town – but it just seems so far from everything! I’m not used to being this close to Queens and since I work in Plainview it’s a pain in the butt driving across the entire county every day.

Haha actually one of the houses we had an offer on I originally saw on LIF – so I’m sure some a bunch of LIFers looked at it too!

lol we cant really afford much ourselves either! im just going to be working my second job FOREVER!! and DH will prob have to either pick up more OT at his job, or find him self a second job as well! lol either that or we just wont be able to eat!

I was completely obsessed with looking for over a year until we found our house. I stopped right after we signed the contract because I don't want to see anything that might be nicer or lower priced!

I felt the same way. But I was on all the time before, which was good because when they dropped our house $50,000 ($100,000 from the original price) I was there that day to see it.

The hardest part about looking online for houses - through MLS or anything else is the realtors (& I know b/c I sold houses for 2 years w/ my ex-BF) is that they try to take pictures when it's sunny out - get the best lighting possible - & then when you see things in person when it's not in that 'perfect' light - it's a bit of a heartbreaker.

Before DH & I went looking upstate for homes we spent 2-3 months looking for condos on LI. OMG - the pics looked soooooooooooooo nice & when we got there we were like is this the right place? out of the 20-24 we went to see - honestly only about 2-3 actually looked the way the picture portrayed. The other thing also was that a lot of the places we went to see had an 'animal smell' to them. Now we are dog owners & dog lovers so we know what it's like to own a pet & still have a clean smelling house. Some of these places smelled like they let their pets (cats & dogs) defficate in them...ugh! What a turnoff as soon as you walk in!

We are renting in Floral Park too right now. We love it there but it is too expensive for us to buy our first house...so we are currently looking in West Hempstead and Lynbrook...no luck so far...thank God FH is handy though..so we have been able to look at houses that need a lot of work, but are more affordable.

Its so stressful but it is equally fun. I can't wait to get into a place that we own.

So funny, DH grew up in West Hempstead and works there now!

You have to go into houses with some imagination. Try not to see it as it is but how it could be with the work your willing to put in. Even a coat of paint can change a house completely. If you don't go in looking that way you will never find a perfect house.

Also realize, you ALWAYS have to compromise on something. Even when you get up to the high end houses you might have to pass up the super duper walk in closet for the jacuzzi whirl pool bath and marble jet showers. (LOL, in my dreams will I be making that compromise) but its true.

I wish those were the things i was compromising on!! lol im compromising on a basement or no basement, one bathroom or 1 and 1/2 bath! lol back yard or tiny piece of grass! lol
