fh had been trying to find a new job since his agency treats him like crap. he got a call last nite from his last interview that an offer was in mail. the catch....it's about an hour and fourty five minutes to get there. his parents live in rockland county, so worse case he can always crash there in bad weather. the $ is better, but it's so far. he said he'd do the commute thing for a year and then we'd figure out where to settle....i'm happy for him...just not the best with change..lol.

your FH is now a DH...
get it right.
i know it's stressful, but if it's what he has to do to further himself... then so be it.
my husband commutes to NJ from QUEENS everyday and it is really starting to get to him... but its what we have to do for now...

Re: job change
i know it stinks, but like Caroline said, if it's a better situation and more money, it may be worth it in the long run. Also, tons of people have long commutes like that . People commute from Putnam County and Rockland to the city, or eastern suffolk to the city....stinks but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes. I grew up in Rockland and until I moved to Queens years ago, my commute to the city was about that length of time. I took the ferry to metro north to Grand Central to the subway to work. Would he be driving or could he take the train? If he takes the train, at least he could sleep, read the paper, get work done on his laptop, etc.

yep I'd deal with it if it means more money, if you're not permanently settled where you are now than its worth it to go where the money is.
and i have the same Queens to NJ commute for work it's a PITA but the money is better than I'd be making in Queens.

Re: job change
he wishes he could take the train, but it's not an option. i think it would be better if he didn't have to drive, but what can you do. i know commuting is the standard, i commute 45 each way too. i wish there were more jobs on the island...guess sometimes you have to take a chance and see what happens.

be glad he has the opportunity! Even though it stinks once you get into the new routine it won't be so bad...
