Just curious--would you be a lil upset?

Just curious--would you be a lil upset?

totally random--but i was hanging with my bro last nite -- having some beers. and his friend shows up....today is his 3 year wedding anniversary. ( seriously don't know how they've made it 3 days let alone 3 years)

so i ask him if he has plans at all...and he says 'yeah i'm taking her out to dinner at southside's in lindenhurst tomorrow.' now--i don't want to sound like a brat or anything--but i felt that just seems so cheapy. i LOVE southside's -- its got great seafood--but lets be real here--its a fish market/almost cafeteria style restaurant. you stand in line--order your food---wait for it to be ready and then find a random table to sit at....that hopefully has been wiped clean from the last people who used it. you have to pay $2 to 'rent' a cracker for crab legs and such.....not something i would deem 'romantic'

i then asked if there was anything else they were gonna do--and hes like 'i'm taking her to see mamma mia this wknd' so i think 'oh good.....that's prob why he's going cheap on the anniversary day--cause he paid $$ for the tix' and as i'm thinking it he says 'figured i might as well---i got the tix for free from my MIL--so why not'

he might be one of the most unromantic cheapos i've ever met.

do you think if your DH planned such a 'romantic' anniversary...it would kind of feel bleh to you?

WOW..I thought my DH could be unromantic. I would absolutely be upset if my DH did something like this for our anniversary. Why bother

well what is their financial situation??? is money tight? I try not to judge these kind of things...but u know the couple - so if they're in a place where they CAN splurge then i'd be dissapointed - however if things are tight maybe he's doing his best??? u said urself they have marital problems - so maybe he just doesnt care. poor girl

financial situation:

they moved into her parents house this year to 'save money.'

in november--against her wishes--he went to las vegas with his 'boys' and had a 4 day vacation of boozing and gambling. she doesn't know that he blew $$$$$$ and has kept it from her

i know for a fact that he has a secret account with thousands of dollars in it, that he's been saving for years, that she doesn't know about either.....he keeps it for a 'rainy day'

with a backstory like that, it's hard not to feel horrible for her.

omg tell me about it!! i practically grew up with this guy--he's like my brother. and i've watched him turn into such a douchebag! i can't believe the way he treats her--but i also can't believe how she takes it!

and yeah--i'm sooooo glad that my DH is the man he is to me!

If I was the wife in that situation I'd feel sad/upset that no effort was put into it - like it's not the amount of money spent, it's the time/energy it takes to plan something. Getting tickets for free and going to a cafeteria style restaurant is not something that took any effort to plan, so I'd be disappointed to say the least.

i would understand if that was my my fav. restraunt or we had no money, otherwise, he better be a little more creative, it doesn't have to be a lot of money, but something from his heart.

If their marriage isn't going well, they might now be doing any special b/c they don/t feel like celebrating

I was about to post that I would be upset unless there is a story behind Southside, like they had a first date there, or said i love you there, or something cute...but now that I read about his secret slush fund I'd say that his choice of restaurants is only the beginning of their problems poor girl, I'd be so sad!

btw, i LOVE southside. I will be thinking about fried clams for the rest of the day!!!

That's pathetic. I'm sorry, but this chick needs to wake up and see what a slimeball her DH is. I can't imagine...

If DH and I had financial problems, I'd rather have a nice quiet dinner at home instead of going out to that type of restaurant.
If I knew DH had money in the bank and was being quite tight fisted about, then yeah, I would be pi$$ed. Nothing wrong with getting free tix, but be unfront about it and then at least go for a decent dinner before or after the show.

Sounds like this girl is quite naive and in the dark about their financial situation. Also sounds like a very unhealthy marriage.

yep....i always say a guy can't be a playa unless u let urself be played. mind u there are rare cases where a faithful man will cheat & it's heartbraking.....but this doesn't seem like the case here! If she puts up with it then it's her own fault.

yeah thats what i was thinking. i think she waits to see if he's gonna start 'caring' anytime soon....and just doesn't say anything.

he told her 6 mos. before the wedding that he wasn't ready for marriage---but she was more concerned about the wedding....and stuff
