key west in January?

Hey Girls - going to the knowledge network that is YOU!! DH and I found a last minute deal for a vacation to Key West over new years but I'm worried the water will be too cold to enjoy - I saw a lot of mixed things on the internet - so has anyone been there around this time of year?

TIA !

I have been there a bunch of times in Jan. Most of the time I was wearing jeans then entire time. Its usually not beach weather. At night it can get downright COLD!

I never really minded too much cause I was going there ever 2 months so one cold trip wasn't bad but if you are looking for a beach vacation you need to go to the islands.

You can chance it cause you never know it could be a heat wave.....and there are plenty of bars to go to if its cold

Oh thanks everyone! I think we might skip it! Seems like it would be so sad to be on the beach and NOT be able to swim etc!

gina - 30 ?! that's crazy

Kittygags - have fun at the wedding

Allison - thanks for the advice, while I'm sure we could amuse ourselves in the bars, shops, etc I think I would probably just end up in the water with frostbite!!

yeah, I went there in Dec no swimming, but had a good time.
No name bar on Deer Key(I think) was cool, Loved 7 fish.
There is a lot of shopping, eating and drinking.
Best part, went on a house tour for a local charity.
Didn't miss beaching it.

on the other hand Cancun in Feb was really really hot, so you could go in the water!
