So yesterday I was kinda bored and decided to lurk on LIF. So pretty much I got what I deserved by lurking because now I'm freaking out.
I was reading the TTC board (although we're not), and there was a post about spotting the week before your period, and how that could be a possible reason why the poster wasn't sucessful in their efforts, because that tends to be a symptom of low progesterone levels, which can cause mild infertility and increases your chances of miscarrying, because obviously, you're not able to hold the uterine lining. This happens to me I would say 4 out of 5 months in a row, and it's the fluke when it doesn't happen, not when it does.
By accident, I just found out last week that either I was never supposed to be born as I am today, I would have had a different younger sibling, or ANOTHER younger sibling. I didn't pry because I was so shocked, but of course, now I'm afraid the risk is hereditary as well.
So right now I'm just really scared. I know I come off like an ogre sometimes about babies, but it's not that I don't want one, I just have the good sense enough to know that DH and I are not emotionally ready for one right now...but now I'm slowly convincing myself that I won't be able to even have one. The last time I asked my dr. for blood testing she told me no, and said that she'd only do it for me if we've been trying for a while with no luck, they don't do it just for 'peace of mind'.
I guess if no one minds sharing, does this happen or did this happen to you as well? Is this normal? We researched it last night and it's so vague, some websites say it's normal, some it's not, and the symptoms for low levels and high levels seem to be the same and I seem to have half of the symptoms from each side! I don't like to self diagnose, but I'm slowly driving myself crazy right now.

Ali, it is BS that they don't do it for 'peace of mind.' Every woman should have a check-up and complete work up before TTC. I say broach the subject again with your MD or get a new one.
As for the rest I can't comment because I don't have that issue - but it can't hurt to get checked out!
Try not to worry or freak yourself out. The body is an incredibly complex machine - I wouldn't take someone else's symptoms and possible diagnosis to be the same as yours.
This is great advice.
Some of the stuff I've read on TTC has been a bit mind blowing and can be a bit panicking. To the point that I can't even read it anymore because every time I'm done reading the boards I freak out over just about everything on there.
So like Marissa said, go to your doctor to give you the diagnosis.
Websites like WebMD are great resources, but should never replace the advice of a doctor. Try not to freak out until there's something to freak out about.
I think you should have a glass of wine

If low progesterone is known to be the problem, a doctor can prescribe progesterone suppositories for you to take right after you ovulate to keep your progesterone up enough for conception and to keep the baby. When I first got pregnant, I had borderline low progesterone and they had me on the suppositories. I'm just about 39 weeks now so I'm assuming that the suppositories worked for me. At around 12 weeks or so, the placenta starts making its own progesterone so you can stop taking them at that point.
At this point, I don't believe there's anything you can do naturally to increase your progesterone levels but I've read that one of the reasons for progesterone issues is too much estrogen. Things I've read recommend limiting soy intake (which encourages estrogen production), drinking organic or hormone free milk and meat (a lot of estrogen in beef and milk apparently from the hormones they give cows), and not heating things in plastic containers (because there are xenoestrogens in them, which mimic real estrogen, and the heating makes it leech into the food).
And just to make you feel better, I was convinced that I'd have all sorts of fertility issues because I have polycystic ovary syndrome. I got pregnant in the third month of trying so your body may surprise you! I know it's natural to worry but it's one of those bridges you cross when you come to it. And there are amazing doctors available to help you conceive once you do decide you're ready.

yup just wanted to add that you DESERVE a better doctor. . honestly I would switch even if you've had that person a while bc this is the care that they are trying to give you and it's not what you deserve. . they should TOTALLY do tests. . .
and then you can figure out if you need to do anything when you are ready down the line. . .and there are some natural things you can do to to help thngs too. . I don't know if you are into alternative medicine type stuff but I had a friend with prog issue stuff and acupuncture totally regulated her hormones, plus all the diet things can help. .
big breath - relax and hang in there. I know it's hard but stress is always the worst thing for regulation of our cycles/hormones etc!!!

I would say even though you're not trying now and not planning on trying soon, you should definitely address this with your doctor. You may be able to prevent problems in the future by taking action now. Also I think not being able to conceive is everyone's biggest fear!

Ali, The girls are right, just take it one day at a time and def get an GYN who will do some testing for you. I recently went to the GYN and he told me that there were all sorts of fertility-predicting tests out there. You go on the 3rd day of your period and they can test your hormone levels and let you know how good your chances are to conceive. I am going next week for my testing, I will let you know what it is like. Being 42, my chances are slim, but I am getting the testing done anyway. I am leaving it up to God. Good luck, please do not make yourself crazy you are young and healthy keep that in the forefront of your mind.
