Kirstie Alley

What happened! This is why I dont think all of those Jenny Craig diets work. They don't teach you how to live after your done.

I kinda feel bad for her. She has been up and down, up and down, for sooo long. Like oprah.

She said she feels guilty about it, because she knows she was an inspiration for a lot of people out there.

I feel bad for her too. It's hard enough being overweight... it must be torture to be judged by the nation as your weight fluctuates so drastically.

Re: Kirstie Alley

WOW. Something medically must be wrong. She loses all the weight and then gains it back and then some.

Re: Kirstie Alley

I don't think Kristie Alley ever WANTED to lose the weight and be thin to begin with. She's probably comfortable enough with herself and wants to just enjoy life & eat what she wants. I'm betting that the one and only reason she lost the weight with Jenny Craig was to prove not only that she has the ability (saying to the world who's so obsessed with her weight - 'I'm not weak, it's not a sickness - I could if I wanted to!'), but also let's not forget that it was just a JOB. Jenny Craig paid her to go on the diet, that doesn't mean that she was doing it for 'herself' to be healthy. As soon as she reached the goal that she was told to reach and was finished with the job, she probably just went back to her normal eating routine. Not everybody feels the need to be thin. I know for ME, I hated it when I was overweight. I just was not a nice person at all because I was constantly feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. So it was a necessity for me to lose it and keep it off. But not everybody's like me, and I'm sure she's happier just being free to eat what she wants and not worry about it.

But while we're on the subject of Jenny Craig, I DEFINITELY have to agree with one of the above posts. It's not a diet for long term at all. It obviously works, they're not lying about that. If you want to lose 50 pounds, you WILL drop the weight, but that's only because you're just eating exactly what they tell you to. But what do you think is gonna happen when you STOP eating what they tell you to? Most people have no idea how to eat healthy. So Jenny is not a diet I would ever recommend to anybody. It doesn't teach you what a healthy lifestyle is at all, so it's pathetically easy to gain every ounce back (plus some).

My friend's mother once wanted to prove a point so she went on a cheesecake diet. For 2 weeks she ate nothing but cheesecake and lost quite a big chunk of weight, proving that you could do pretty much any 'crash diet' to lose quick weight. However, as soon as she went back to eating real food again, she gained it all back plus some in only a matter of days Thus proving her point once again.

I still think its just that she has a whole bunch of goiters.

I think she just likes to stuff her face. And you know what, that's fine.

Re: Kirstie Alley

Its not just her bc SO many people who lose weight gain it back. I don't know what the percentage is but im sure a big percentage of those who have big weight loss do gain it back and the problem is that each time you lose and then gain back, you are more likely to put on even more weight than previously. When you keep losing and gaining, you lose more muscle mass so each time you will have more fat. Plus when your body is used to eating a lot less, once you start eating again you will gain twice the amount.

She knew what she had to do to keep it off, but the problem is that many people once they lose the weight think they can finally eat again how they want bc they reached their goal. They feel they're thin now so why not eat. The problem with diets that really restrict you is that this is very likely to happen. Its better to just know whats healthy and eat whatever is healthy and workout, rather than be on a specific meal plan that you know you won't do forever. AND WORK OUT

not sure if Kirstie was working out or just how much she was working out. You can tell Valerie has been working out alot bc not only did she lose weight but if you see her in the bikini commercial, her stomach is ripped, you dont get that from just eating right lol

I feel bad for her but at the same time, she did this herself. When i gain weight, i have nobody to blame but myself. Once she saw she was gaining more and more weight she could've done something about it. Its a choice you make and if you are gonna start eating alot and not working out then this will happen, especially if in the past you always gained weight a lot, so shouldn't be a surprise for her. When i gain weight, i cant say oh no what happened, i ate the food i knew i shouldn't be eating and my fault, i cant go crying about it bc i did it to myself. Once i get to a certain weight i know ok its gotten out of control and i need to get back on track now. If you sit there feeling sorry for yourself then youre just going to continue gaining weight bc as you know depression can make you eat more.

I'm back on Weight Watchers. I gained all the weight I lost right before the wedding, and like Denise said; I have no one to blame but myself. I was so uncomfortable in my own skin that I had to go back. I really think WW is a good program b/c it teaches you portion control, you can still go out to eat but you have to make better choices. It gives you the tools to change your behavior which I think is key to maintaining weight loss.

I hope this time it works!!

WOW!!! It's so hard to maintain weight, I have been up and down my whole like and I am at my highest now. For some reason I have no motivation to fix it, its weird I wish I can I need a push!

Cassandra, this is a very well written and true post!! One thing I've learned with my dieting, from having an 'eating out book' which tells how many calories are in restaurant food, is HOW MANY CALORIES ARE IN THESE FOODS!!!!!! HELLO, WHO KNEW?!!!!!!!! Being on a 1200 cal. diet, I usually look for foods that are about 300/350 cal. when eating out. But many food items, ie., sandwiches, etc., are 600 and MORE calories!!!! It's no wonder people have obesity issues!!!!!! For me, several diets have worked and then I gain back, but this time I just HAVE to keep the weight off, because of diabetes, and other health issues, not to mention it's taken a year and a day just to lose one pound!!!!!! I REALLY HAVE TO REMEMBER THE HARD WORK I'VE PUT INTO LOSING EACH POUND!!!!!! Mary MOB

According to the bariatric surgeon at my hospital you have about a 10% chance of keeping the weight off. 90% of the people will gain it back, all of it. But then again, he makes his money off of people who of to staple their stomach so those statistics may be biased.

wow i was thinking like 60%, even higher than i thought. But not really surprised. This is why when ppl ask whats a quick way to lose weight or ask about diet pills or some quick cleansing just for losing weight i always say just work out and eat healthy, dont follow any specific meal plan.
