Well, after a long 8 year battle, my Uncle lost his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) yesterday. He had the 'slow kind' which isn't necessarily a good thing -- it just prolongs the stages. It did give him more time with his family, but his quality of life at the end wasn't something I'd wish on anyone.

His daughter just got engaged after our wedding and was planning an April 2009 wedding, His son's wife is due in June with their first child. Her baby shower is in a few weeks.

The funeral is in Florida where they lived, and there's no way I can get on a plane right now. The flights to and from our honeymoon in St. Lucia were the absolute worst physical torture I've experienced.

I need to call my cousin. I just don't know what to say

ALS is a HORRIBLE disease and I'm so sorry you're family had to deal with all of this! I'm so sorry for your loss and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers

I am so sorry Jess for your loss!

(Take the vicoprofin and make sure it builds up in your system-that is what I did for my flight-not a perfect answer but at least you are not ready to puke from the pain)
