For all those who are currently looking, just bought a home or are in process of closing...
what areas did you look in and or buy?
DH and I have been looking for over a year now and because of our price range are getting very frustrated. Any place we can afford we are either in competition with contractors or the area s u c k s.
I am getting so jaded and disappointed. I thought it was going to be fun. It isn't.

Re: Ladies buying homes
FH is a real estate agent at this office based in Kings Park. We will probably end up in this area. http://www.mcknightrealtors.com/

Re: Ladies buying homes
Take a look in Elmont just over the Floral Park border. My sister and brother in law are one block outside of Floral Park but since they are in the Elmont post office the housing prices are significantly less. The area she is in is really nice. The people really maintain their property and decorate for the holidays. She is on Marshall street off of Raff.

Re: Ladies buying homes
we basically were looking in massapequa, belmore, bethpage, east meadow merrick, seaford, wantagh...
the house we bought is in salisbury, which is westbury but the east meadow school disctrict
we lucked out because the owner now bought the house off of forclosure so we got a great price for pretty much a brand new house...its small but cute

Re: Ladies buying homes
We bought in North Bellmore. We looked in Bellmore, Merrick, Franklin Square, Rockville Centre, Garden City, Port Washington, even as far east as Plainview/ Old Bethpage (thats far for us because we work in the city)...

sadly this is why DH & I moved off LI 6 years ago. We bought a brand new home on a private/dead end road for about less than 1/2 of what the standard home goes for on LI. We're on a a little more than1/3 of an acre & have a 1900 sq ft home. The only down side is being away from all my family. Trade-off I guess...
Similar story for us. We closed on our home in VA last June.

Re: Ladies buying homes
Thanks for all your replies!
We are actually going to see a house on Sunday in West Hempstead. The price is right and it is one that we have been eyeing for a while. Its not really the part of W hempstead that we wanted, but its on a dead end off a dead end and the houses around it are well maintained. Just can't figure out why it isn't selling, which is not really a good sign
But anyway-- the area I think isn't ideally what we wanted, but I know for a starter home we are prob going to have to make the sacrifice. When the market goes back up we can sell in a few years and get the house we really want
First we have to make sure on Sunday that DH fits in the basement. He's 6 foot 5 inches, so its an issue
