Ladies buying homes

Ladies buying homes

For all those who are currently looking, just bought a home or are in process of closing...

what areas did you look in and or buy?

DH and I have been looking for over a year now and because of our price range are getting very frustrated. Any place we can afford we are either in competition with contractors or the area s u c k s.

I am getting so jaded and disappointed. I thought it was going to be fun. It isn't.

Re: Ladies buying homes

When we started looking we were looking in Kings Park/Smithtown/St. James.

However, I wanted to stay on the south shore.

We started looking in West Islip. Then branched out to East Islip.

We ended up buying in East Islip and love it!

sadly this is why DH & I moved off LI 6 years ago. We bought a brand new home on a private/dead end road for about less than 1/2 of what the standard home goes for on LI. We're on a a little more than1/3 of an acre & have a 1900 sq ft home. The only down side is being away from all my family. Trade-off I guess...

If you don't mind my asking....where do you live now?

DH and I contemplate this all the time. The only thing is that he is a teacher, so to commute a long distance or relocate jobs and lose tenure is not a viable choice..

Honestly it doesnt matter what price range you are in it was so hard for us to find something we really loved as well.

We were looking in Oceanside & RVC only. We own in Franklin Sq. & Long Beach already which we are renting out (will be renting FS when the new house is finished renovating) we will hopefully soon be in contract in Oceanside - OceanLea Area .

Re: Ladies buying homes

we had no problem finding a house (in fact we put offers on 4) and we are at the low end of the price range. We were mostly looking in the West Babylon, Lindenhurst area but ended up buying in Farmingdale.

Oh we have been putting offers in. They just keep going with all cash offers instead

We originally were looking on Long Island but the taxes were driving me nuts. FIL offered to sell us his house (that we live in now) for much less. It's a huge house - three bedrooms, two and a half baths, finished basement and attic - so now we're going to do that. Plus it's a gift of equity loan so we don't have to put a down payment down since the equity acts as the down payment.

we have friends looking in Franklin Sq and cant find anything. I think you get more for your money if you go farther out east....N/S boarder.

When we were looking I found that if the house was cheap (for the town) and needed tons of work then contractors are coming in with all cash....we found our house cause it needed work but not work it for a contractor.

West Hempstead I know in certain parts is very beautiful but the area is changing. I suggest Frank Sq. I like off Frank Ave. if traveling south bound you make a left. After the McDonalds & Starbucks. So nice in there.
Oceanside is so big & its very tricky place syou think are not O'side are. My husband is orinally from there. The Estates area (Think Middle Bay Country Club) Thats really nice but pretty pricey. Oceanlea area is great & very desireable pricey as well butnot as much as estates & the other area is the Terrace. Its really great in there & the homes are pricey to moderate. You can find some great buys. I hope i helped alittle. Dont get discouraged its hard but something great will pop up. I PROMISE. I was there with ya.

I don't know your price range but there are lots of houses in Levittown (where I live) and Massapequa. I'm sure you look on MLS but also try getting a realtor to sign you up on listingbook. When we were looking for house I loved listingbook. We also drove around on Sat and Sun afternoons in the neighborhoods we liked and just went to a bunch of open houses.

FH and I started looking in Lynbrook but didn't find anything so we branched out to Massapequa/Bethpage/Seaford. We bought in North Massapequa and love it. There are a lot of houses for sale around here! We were lucky to find an updated house- the previous owners were relocated to Cali. and didnt plan on moving!

We are actually in contract on a house in Franklin Square, I found it on MLSLI and had my realtor show us the house, have you tried mlsli?
I am from Queens but I hear that Franklin square is a great area and the school district they say is good.
Franklin Square was as far out as DH was willing to go. We were looking for over a year prior to getting married and I know its frustrating but you will find the right house!
