i know i have asked a million cat questions... but heres another one
DH and i are going away for a week in april... my BF volunteered to come by and clean Miller's litter box, feed him and make sure everthing is okay
so my question is... how many times do you think she has to come by? i figured 2-3 times, but i wanted to see what everyone else thought b/c im new to the cat ownership thing
TIA

Re: ladies with CATS
i think that as long as you leave a larger bowl of dry food and water out if they came like 3 days that would be sufficient UNLESS Miller is a pooper and the box gets dirty fast. you don't want him getting spiteful and pooping in other places

Over a week? I'd say at least twice a day, but that's just my feeling. If anything, definitely every day. Some cats are fussy about a clean litter box. I clean my cat's box in the morning, usually when I come home and again before I go to sleep. And, I usually change the whole box daily or no later than the following day. :)

unfortunatly, my BF doesnt live close enough to come everyday.... we've gone away for a weekend (fri-sun) before and left him alone with no one cleaning his litter box or anything and he was FINE.... i usually change his box every other day... hes not fussy about that

Once at the least in the middle of the week, but twice would be ideal. I always clean Daisy's box the morning we leave before I shower and then put out 2 HUGE bowls of food and water. I add LOTS of ice cubes to the bowl as well. HTH

3 for SURE if he can maybe 4. Did you get the self cleaning litter box? If you did he does not have to clean it. A well worth investment
I just purchased the blue crystal one. It is amaaaazing!!!! I can't speak enough about it. The motor is quiet, the metal rake move in two different directions so the 'stuff' doesn't jam. The smell is idealno more nasty clay like smell. The cats do not track litter around the house My cats don't smell like litter anymore. ( the scent gets picked up in their fur) The unit doesn't have to be changed until 15 - 30 days - and.... IT IS PRETTY
$125.00 Petco.
The water fountain helps too, I think I mentioned that. The only thing that should be taken care of is the food, that is why I would suggest he come more like 4 days.
fairly inexpensive and the water has a filter, the cats love it!!! $40 -$50? It gets changed and refilled after 6 to 8 wks - holds 1 gallon of water.
here it is
Have a nice trip and GL

Re: ladies with CATS
My father came by everyday to pick up mail, clean the litter box, feed my cat can food and make sure dry food was out and most importantly.... fresh water. You definately want someone putting out fresh water.

Re: ladies with CATS
we are going away in March and usually we drop my cat off at my parents house for the week. Unfortunately they're in Florida for winter and won't be back until April. So we're thinking of having our neighbor downstairs, who is also a very good friend, look after him. The biggest problem is that my cat hates being alone. I know he is going to whine a lot, so I'm hoping that our friend will spend some time with him everyday!

yeah miller hates being alone also... but like i said, my friend cant get here everyday... DH suggested that maybe his mom do it b/c she lives closer - but shes not a cat person so i KNOW she wont spend time with him and love him lol

Re: ladies with CATS
I used to have my sisters take turns coming over once a day for my cats when I was still living at my co-op. I think once a day/ every other day is ideal. When going away for a long weekend (3 days or so) I think it's fine to have someone come in once as long as you put out at least three bowls of water....DH has someone come in twice a day when we go away now but I'm not sure it's necessary lol.

Re: ladies with CATS
2-3x week is fine. cats are very self-sufficient. we leave ours for a weekend with just a lot of food and water. when we go to mexico we will take her to MIL's house.

As long as Miller has water and dry food out, she will be okay!
Have fun and don't worry!
