So this morning when I took out my contacts and put on my glasses I realized WOW i cant see a thing without either of them. I was wondering if anyone had that Lasik surgery. If you did, are you happy? Are there any pros/cons, any side effects or anything? Do you have to go back after a certain amount of time for 'touch-ups' or anything? Oh and lastly any idea of the ball park range?
Thanks!

Re: Lasik surgery anyone?
I had it done, I was always able to see up close, but never far away. I also had a very bad astigmatism which made driving at night very hard as the street lights really through off my driving. Everything was very blurred and had such a huge halo or star look to it. . To make matters worse, I would never ever be seen in glasses, Yes, I guess I am vain, I just hated them on me, just not a glasses person. So I suffered as long as I could without my parents finding out I really needed them when I was younger. What broke the ice is I always played competitive softball and still do, and I had such a hard time playing at night under all of those bright lights with my contacts in, that I just couldn't take it anymore, It would throw me off so much & besides, wearing eye makeup and being allergic to the contacts didnt help matters any, as my eyes were always red and irritated. But I wore contacts from the age of 13. So I was dating a cop at the time and his brother go it done and he was fine, a year after I got it done but did almost back out, as its a scary thing. Well by far it was the best gift I ever gave myself. My astigmatism was corrected 100% as my vision was corrected to 20/20. I can see lights for what they are instead of them looking like halo' and everything is so much for colorful, the green in the grass is another thing that I saw a difference in. I thought I always saw it clear, but I was wrong. I cant describe how much more vivid life is now. It was so worth every penny.

Re: Lasik surgery anyone?
My dad had it done last year and he's very happy with the results. I went with him when he had the procedure done and the doctor let me watch a close up of his eye on a TV screen. I can definitely understand being nervous about it, and I don't know if I could ever get it done myself, but my dad was so happy when he walked out of the doctor's office and could already see perfectly! He had to wear special glasses to protect his eyes for about a week and use eye drops, but I think the recovery went pretty quick. That's all I really know about it. Good luck if you decide to get it done!

DH had it. It lasts for about 5-10 years and then your eyes might change. He is in a light prescription now. Depending on the person, you might need to go back every 5 years, or never. Also, some say the older you are the better with it. This is what DH told me his doctor told him. You also need to see if you are a candidate (I was considering it, but I was diagnosed with uveitis and rheumatoid arthritis and I am not considered a candidate for it
I would get a consultation and see what you think.

Re: Lasik surgery anyone?
My sister had a consultation yesterday, the cost is $4700 for LASIK..
I'm going for a consultation next week. I don't think I'm eligible though, I have some scarring on my cornea.
My mom, 2 aunts and a close friend all had it done and love it. (although, 8 years later- my mom is starting to need reading glasses.)
ETA: the doctor said common side effects are temporary dry eyes (they give you drops for this and it usually goes away in a few weeks) and halos around lights (also temporary- but he said that it may last a long time if you have especially bad eyesight to start with.)
I got a little DVD about it, I'll see if I can upload it later and send it to you.

Re: Lasik surgery anyone?
My husband and I had it done almost 2 years ago. We had the intralace done, It is completely bladeless. Anyway, my BIL had it done approx. 3 months b4 we decided to do it. He had a stigmatism and had it done. He ended up having to go back 2x to have it fine tuned. He now sees great far but can't see up close. He never had a problem with that.
Now on to Hubby and I. We were both supposed to get it done May 8, 2006. When we went for our pre-op it ended up that I had dry eye and had to use drops and had to wait about a month. I was so bummed. My DH till this day loves it. As for me. . .I had it done on June 3, 2006 and right after I could see perfectly. The day after when I went for my post op I was 20/15. About a year later I was 20/20 and about 4 months ago I was 20/25. Don't know why my sight is deteriorating. They wanted to prescribe glasses for at night. We paid $4000 each. They gave us a discount b/c we went together and my BIL used them. We went to Diamond Vision is Garden City but the procedure is done in Manhattan. I am stressing b/c I find I am back to squinting and can't see as clear as last year. They can't go back and tweak it until my eyes are at 20/30!! UGH
** With that said. . .I still feel it is worth it. For 2 years I haven't had to bother with contacts or glasses. Hopefully my eyes will get better.

Re: Lasik surgery anyone?
My husband had it done in January. He has to go for follow-ups every couple of weeks. He said that it was totally worth every penny, especially since he used to get eye infections from his contact lenses. It cost him about $3,500, but it is worth it. The cost of eyeglasses and contact lenses over the years adds up so it pays off. As far as I know there is no touch ups but eventually you will need eyeglasses for reading but that just comes with age, which is the same for everyone else whether or not they have the surgery. Fm for details.

Re: Lasik surgery anyone?
I wanted to do it but I am not a candidate for it because I have an astigmatism in both eyes and its VERY VERY severe in my right-thats why even wearing contact lenses is a trial for me and I stick to glasses. I wish I was a candidate though.
