layoffs ... finally happened at my company

thank god, my job is safe but they just let go 14 of 80 employees I feel so badly for them. lots of tears in oceanside this afternoon

lets that these people find something soon, most have young children and are not well off to begin with (they are all from the manufacturing and production team at the medical equipment company I work for)

it's really scary out there. our CEO put up a webcast that they will be reducing our headcount by the end of this month. everyone is on pins and needles because we have no idea who will be let go. what was also really disturbing is that our CEO, while he's talking about reducing headcount, all i can think is that he is one of the former Merrill executives who received an 8 figure bonus - and he only worked there for 3 months!!

Did you see this coming? My boss keeps telling me things are going to get tight around here soon and possibly may be laying people off!!!

we were doing well at the end of last year, sales were high and we were in a better position than most medical equipment companies. Jan was OK but Feb was terrible for sales, they needed to make some cuts. We all had a feeling it would be coming since Feb was so terrible (like 30% sales as comparred to Feb 08 )

My place did cuts only a few weeks ago but luckily I am still here (about 50% of my colleagues at my level were not so lucky). I have heard that further cuts may be coming in the next month or two so that is really bad. I literally have my own wing of the floor right now because the three offices to BOTH the left and right of me are now empty.
