Lets pick up the holiday pace

Share a funny Christmas time outlaw story!

Last Christmas I brought a fully prepared baked brie to my outlaws that just needed to be baked for 12 minutes (I made it with honey and almonds and rosemary - which I did at my parent's house in an effort to spend as little time with my MIL in the kitchen as possible).

12 minutes comes and goes and the thing is ooozy and melty and delicious looking - phewww. I serve it, grab a glass of wine, and find a cozy and safe nook near my SIL (my husband is the youngest of 5 kids and holidays are WILD at his parents - always a fight, etc.).

So a few minutes later my husband comes over to me and was like 'its not melty enough...can we pop it back in??'

Not melty enough - thanks baby. I throw the thing back in and then someone shouts out 'stocking time' so like a little kid I run. 35 minutes later the smoke alarm goes off.....the brie ignited in the oven.....my BIL goes in bare-armed to pull it out and my FIL rips the oven unit out of the wall.

I'll leave it there bc the post is already long enough. Let's just say the story was brought up at our RD for shyts and giggles.

I asked my MIL what I could bring this year and she said 'anything that doesn't require you using the oven' in a way too serious tone to be funny....

HO HO HO...

i don't have any funny holiday stories with the outlaws ... they're much too boring to have funny stories associated with them.

Re: Lets pick up the holiday pace

BUT its not your fault.. blame in on DH!.

my story is similar, but it wasn't on a holiday. we always did dinner at my parents on mondays and tried to do dinner at my ILs on tuesday.. because mil works all day i'd cook (over the summer when i didn't have dance)
well they have a stove downstairs thats only really used for the stove top, and an oven upstairs that is as old as the hills, but works like a charm.

well i think i was making chicken cordon bleu or something and i went to grab it with a towel, they use dish towels instead of oven mits.

well the towel BARELY touched the coil in the oven... yea, it kinda caught on fire. so i threw it in the sink upstairs.. that had an iron in it.
i dont think i broke the iron.. but it did get wet.

so i'm screaming 'FIRE! FIRE!!!!!!!' and dh is downstairs ignoring me...
i get the 'fire' out and run down stairs to scold him for not helping me put it out...
honestly, it wasn't bad at all.. just burned a little hole in the towel.

but i had to explain to MIL why i was scared to take the now burning food out of the oven...

needless to say, i use towels at my house too...

thats just one of my many cooking stories.
i'm a bit of a klutz.
