Here is an article you might find interesting - Nassau/Suffolk, NY has had the 4th largest increase in home prices in the U.S. over the past year. Great for those who already have a home, not great I guess for those who don't. Prices are skyrocketing!
We closed in January, and it's not looking like we'll be in until mid-March at this point. We still have work to do just to be able to move in. And we are re-doing the kitchen, so we'll be living without a kitchen for awhile once we are in also! Ugh! I can't wait to be settled, but I know once we are, it will be worth it!

Re: LI Housing Market
It's all a big tease, because the inside of the house is finished as of today. I'm not sure if we'll be allowed to close regardless of the fact that there's no driveway. Right now it would be a PITA to schlep around in mud just to get to the front door. We had to take another month on the lease here. And paying an extra month rent to be here on top of the mortgage next month when we close...ouch! It'll be pretty tight.
Living without a kitchen stinks. Hooray for Houlihans.

Oh Claud I wish you luck with the kitchen remodel. We are almost finished with ours and I told DH if we ever do this again I am moving out first!. My contractor was excellent but there is so much dust in my house that I am probably going to hire someone to clean after I get everything moved from my living room back into my kitchen.
Unfortunately I was in the hospital when the project started so my husband and son had to take everything out of the kitchen. Let's just say it was a complete disaster. They just put everything and I mean everything in my living room. No organization at all. It has been such a job to figure out which box they threw things in. Plus since I am still recuperating I can only do a little each day.
On the plus side I love the way my kitchen looks and I am so glad that we did it! Best of luck.

Wendy, don't scare me! LOL! Since we are not doing a complete remodel, I'm hoping it won't be that bad. We are just doing a replace of the stuff that's in there now, and putting in a new floor. Right now, there is nothing in my kitchen except for the appliances and some old cabinets. I am not 'stocking' the kitchen until it's done. Hopefully, we'll be taking the old cabinets out and completing the demolition phase before we move in. We'll see. We don't know how long exactly we'll have to wait to have the new stuff installed, but we have to wait at least 4-6 weeks.

Claud if they can get the old stuff out before you move in that will help. You won't have to worry about the dust being in and on everything you own. We have been living out of a microwave and on take out food for the last month. The only big thing left to do is painting and that would have been done already if I could only find a color that I like. Decisions, decisions.
