Since we've been married and all our friends are now married...going out to our regular bars and clubs just is not the same. Not to mention that most of our friends are all over LI and do not want to leave their 5 mi 'comfort zone' around their house. Thus we wind up at the same old places.
So...my question is...What is your favorite hangout/bar/club to go with your husband and/or other couples? What do you like most about it? We are looking for new cool places- preferably with great music and a bit of an 'older crowd'. (By 'older' I mean early 30's.)
Our old Standby is Mulcahy's in Wantagh. We met there
. We like that they have live music AND a DJ. But even that place is getting dull. Thanks! Jen
my requirement is that it has to have a place to sit...no more standing in crowded bars for me!!!
there are tons of places in huntington that allow this...sorry I don't know much more about LI places
In NYC we are big fans of Bull McCabes...darts, drinks, SEATS...although you get an occasionally NYUer (not really in the summer)...it isn't a really young crowd

Re: Long Island Nightlife (and being married)
we used to go to Chesterfields in Huntington alot to see Willie Steel play. This was 5 years ago (when we lived on LI) so I have no idea how its changed. But it was a fun small place to listen to some live music and hang out on a comfy couch.

I never go to bars/clubs with Luke. They are all such pick up scenes so there is no point.
Most of our friends are single so we sometimes go out with them.
I really wish we had more 'couple' friends b/c being in a bar has gotten really old. I much prefer going out to dinner and drinks with married/coupled friends.

My husband and I are not into bar scenes. We have the most fun with game nights - having friends over to play poker, scrabble, uno etc.
At first we would go out to dinner with other couples - but we found this expensive week after week.

Stef, Well then, you should go to the NW GTG!!!! I'm hoping to go and meet new 'married' friends. My single girlfriends are great, but sometimes you need to speak to another married lady!

I agree with the standing thing - I need a chair! LOL I think I've been to Mulcahy's twice since I left college - I'm really feeling old!
We have a mix of single vs couple friends, but I find it very boring to now sit in a bar all night. DH and I recently went out to dinner and drinks with another couple and had the BEST time! We were home by midnight and that was enough for us! 5 yrs ago I would have called myself a loser.
We currently don't have any favorite bars for the above reasons - it's nice to go out once in a while but not too often. We mostly go to friends' places and hang out there. It's just easier all around.

Erica - this reminds me of the night we met up with you and John! Remember - we didn't want to stay in a crowded bar and picked the one that was least popular? We all had a great time too, go figure.
We're all about nice conversation now - no insanely loud music.

Re: Long Island Nightlife (and being married)
We don't go to too many bars as a couple. If we have to wait for a table at a restaurant we'll always wait by the bar.
We usually have people over or go to someone elses house for dinner/drinks/movie/games or something.
What's weird is that I rarely sit and drink. I prefer to stand at bars. Go figure? But I don't like crowds.
Every once in a while I'll have a girls night out where we go to a club or a bar with a dance floor to dance.

Re: Long Island Nightlife (and being married)
I'm getting really sick of the bar scene as well. DH and I met at Mulcahys too!! So we go back there every once in a while - usually when Big Shot, a Billy Joel cover band is playing.
Another place that is a huge favorite with our single friends is Napper Tandys in Massapequa. God, we used to hang out there ALL the time, mostly cause it was close by.
I'm all about staying home and having people over now, or going to their place. Ah, wedded bliss!

Re: Long Island Nightlife (and being married)
For some reason I drink more when I'm sitting since the drink is right in front of me. If I am standing at a bar I set it down and talk more...LOL

Re: Long Island Nightlife (and being married)
I'm not married (well not technically, but most refer to us as husband and wife), so I hope you don't mind me replying.
As for nightlife: CoCos - nothing like having a drink on the water. It's great...there's a nice breeze, it doesn't get too crowded and the crowd it does draw is somewhat older on Fridays and Saturdays.
We tend to go to restaurants that have a bar/lounge scene like Lola and Red in Huntington.
Fire Island (Ocean Bay Park) is always nice!
We hit Bridgeview Yacht Club often, but that has a much younger crowd (and it gets crowded fast.)
Ooh...and Sag Harbor is great as well! It's nice if you want something to do during the day into the evening. Definitely laid back. The only problem is driving home (or you can always stay at a B&B!)

Re: Long Island Nightlife (and being married)
There are a few nice bars in Huntington. Blue Hanu is a nice loungey atmosphere but it gets crowded. Tellers in Islip has a nice cigar bar type thing, but the drinkks are $$$ And their other restuarant H20 in Smithtown looks decent http://www.h2oseafoodgrill.com/ I've heard that The Grill Room in the Hauppauge industrial park is nice, but I've never been. They do live jazz on Friday's. Drinks $$$ there too, from what I hear.
We never do the 'club' bar thing anymore. I want a small table and chairs so Ican cocktail comfortably for a few hours without worrying that some drunk little 20 year old is going to bumo into me and spill my drink.

Yes I know I dont live in NY anymore...but I agree... I much rather chill and hang out in a place where I can sit and chat with my friends...although I have to say that I have been out of that barhopping phase for a few years.

we still go to bars every onec is awhile. Just our local ones for a drink or sao, but now we mainly get together at each other's houses. I dont do the club scene anymore. Too old for that.

Re: Long Island Nightlife (and being married)
The funny thing is years ago, we'd hesitate from going into a club/bar if it was empty. Nah, we'd say, it's dead there.
Now, we look for the quiet places! If it's packed wall to wall, I'm outta there!
Though I occasionally go out with my single girlfriends, DH and I prefer dinner and drinks with other couples. I love cooking up a storm and hosting small dinner parties.
