Looking back...

Looking back...

Looking back on your wedding day, is there anything you think about now, that you say to yourself, 'why did I bother stressing out over that'...or....'I shouldn't have spent so much money on .....'

I look at some of the threads on BHB and I'm like...what the heck is the big deal over that?? I know we all wanted our big day to be perfect, but at the end of the day, does it REALLY matter that one flower had an extra petal compared to the others?? (that's just an over exaggeration)

what do you think?

I can't think of anything right at this second because I don't think I went overboard and still had a wonderful, beautiful wedding - but I agree with what you're saying as a whole! That's how come I think we get so annoyed about things being posted over here that are no interest to us - we're so past it!!

edited to add: And, my MIL wanted to wear a white gown with a mini-train on it. DH made her change the dress, but she started A LOT of drama about it, and her neices, who were bridesmaids, decided that they needed to avenge their poor, innocent aunt, so they made my life (and wedding) miserable.

I should have just let her wear the white gown- everyone would have thought she was an idiot, instead of making my life miserable...

forgive me for saying this, but what an idiot!!! what the hell was she trying to prove wanting to wear a white gown with a mini-train on it??? was she trying to re-live HER wedding day!!??

PRETTY MUCH! When we took her to look at halls, she wouldn't even give me a chance to comment before she started tearing the place apart!!!

I think she doesn't understand the difference between 'what do you think about this?' versus 'Can you make this decision for me?'

Re: Looking back...

The night before my wedding was daylight savings (fall behind). I stressed big time over how long our mass and receiving line would take in fear of not having enough daylight for pictures. It was not an issue at all, we had plenty of time! I also stressed over the weather which we have NO control over, again it wasn't an issued, it was sunny and 70 on October 31st!

Mmm...not really because I don't think I stressed over alot of the little things. My cousin talk me early on that alot of those things don't matter and in alot of situations, I took her advice to heart and it helped.

I do know exactly what you are talking about though, when I see certain threads on BHB... sometimes I want to tell them -- 'don't sweat it - it REALLY doesn't matter that much!! Whatever you pick is FINE!' But you know you can't because when that was you - it DID seem a whole lot more important. You kinda have to let them figure it out for themselves.

The thing I stressed about most was time for pictures, and I was right to. I also stressed about people being ready on time, and arriving to the reception on time, and I was right to.

Other than that - unnecessary stress was worrying because my florist double-booked on my wedding day when she told me she typically only does one wedding per day (me & nferrandi) - everything turned out perfect.

What I SHOULD have stressed about more was my cake - my hall really did a great job of dissappointing me on that one. I should've trusted my gut and spent the money and gone somewhere else for the cake.

I don't thing I really got overly stressed about things that weren't too important. My family and DH would probably tell you different. I know I shouldn't have stressed too as much about DH getting his things done, like asking his groomsmen to be in the wedding and picking out and ordering the tuxs. I should have had more faith in him.

I should have stressed more about my hair instead of just telling my friend to do whatever she wanted.

I do laugh when I read what some of the girls are stressing about, but then think that I probably would have done the same before my wedding. I just want to tell them it's not worth it!

Re: Looking back...

I think I stressed too much about accomodations. My FIL refused to allow his family to stay in a hotel and so I kept arguing with DH about how he shouldn't give up his bed and why were 14 people staying in the house the night before the wedding.

Looking back, he couldn't stand it as much as I hate the idea of it, but he did what he did because it was family and they had travelled from Poland to come to our wedding.

Re: Looking back...

There were a few things I might have done differently but Im one of those people that really notice the little things at all events (both before I got engaged and after I got married)...so there is no way I would have not paid attention to those things. Im not one of those people who look back on their engagement and think I turned into someone I wasnt. I was crazy even before I got engaged and still am. haha

If anything, im even more critical about how those little things get executed than I ever was!

I was anxious about meeting the minimum, but the day of, I didn't care, and I was happy that we had a small wedding because I was able to chat with everyone at least for a few minutes.

Up till the day before, I was anxious about the weather. It poured, but I had prepared myself for that, so it didn't bother me that much. And we have some cute pics of us under the umbrella!

Re: Looking back...

I didn't stress too much I don't think- I made lists for the day, but i like to think i was organized instead!

In the end, it wouldn't have mattered if i stressed or not- things happened that i couldn't have controlled- our rabbi took too much cold medicine, nobody could hear him, he said DH's name wrong and he didn't follow what we wrote- thankfully we had a priest too who saved the ceremony! Also, the woman I booked never showed to do my hair(was arrested for driving drunk the night before) it ruined the whole fun morning part of getting ready....in the end, we found someone else last minute....but, those are things I couldn't have anticipated!

Re: Looking back...

I cried over choosing table cloths...I am very ashamed to admit that. It was so hard...matte or sparkle? lavendar or violet! lol

OMG shoes...all the shoe threads!! I was late and missed picture time because I was starving and stopped at Dunkin Donuts. I forgot my shoes at the apt and wore my Ugz!

Re: Looking back...

I wasn't really stressed until the very last days and then it got bad...But it wasn't really a specific thing i stressed about but rather the weight of all of it. I was just sooo nervous that it wasn't goign to be what i wanted...
It was hard for me to see how all these details were goign to just fall into place.

BUT they did...so yes now looking back i wish i didn't stress about that much but i think it is natural.

Re: Looking back...

I don't think I would have spent as much money on my cp's as I did. They were beautiful but it could have saved me a small fortune going with something else.

I stressed my bridesmaids dresses and my favors ALOT and in the end I couldn't have cared less about either!

ETA: In the last month of planning the thing I stressed the most was how my dress would look. I was almost in tears at my first fitting b/c I hated the way my dress looked and didn't even want to put it back on after that!
BUT I have to say my dress was sooo comfortable and I love they way it looks in my pictures. But I was REALLY worried about how I would look in the pictures!

Re: Looking back...

If I had known my mom and sister deliberately planned to be 2 1/2 hours late for their hair/make-up appointments at my house the day of my wedding, I wouldn't have invited them.

Oh and I paid for their hair. You girls know how much hair costs by Taralei, right?!!
