For DH's suprise birthday party. His birthday is in March but I was thinking of doing it mid February to really surprise him and I want to do it somewhere not too close to us (in Flushing) so he doesn't suspect he's going to his party. Any recommendations for Knights of Columbus/VFW halls that aren't too horrendous looking? I want to bring in a caterer...fh loves chinese food so I thought that would be cool and different than the usual heroes/Italian stuff.

theres a knights/vfw on bellmore ave in bellmore that is really nice. high ceilings (not stuffy or basement-y) you should check it out!

eta: here are some pics i could find online - its from 'italian night 2007' but if you look closely you can see what the room kinda looks like. Pics here

KOC in Deer Park is REALLY nice. MIL's 60th birthday party was there and it was a really nice hall. Very modern and nice.

I had my e-party there. Food is pretty good, nothing to rave about but decent. The place is nice, doesn't look like a KOC at all. We were in the main room upstairs which is pretty big but I think there's a smaller room downstairs.

I'm from Island Park - we had our 8th grade 'prom' there. From what I remember it was great! Of course, that was also 13 years ago ...

ii had my bridal shower and engagement party in an awesome place in queens (Rockaway belleharbor) called the Harbor Light. You would have the entire top floor of the 'house' (its abar/restaurant ) buffet and you can decorate any way you want. I love theirfood too. If you call ask to speak to Kathy and that GIna and Jenny Dowd reccomended you!

Sorry to crash...if he loves chinese food, why not do it at a chinese buffet? I know many of them have private rooms...my friend just threw her SIL a bridal shower at one and she said it was fantastic (and only $11/pp!)
