Losing friends during the wedding?

Losing friends during the wedding?

Have others out there lost 'friends' during the wedding process? I lost one friend who I had known since I was in pre-school who pretty much told me not to bother sending her an invite when I emailed her to verify her address -- crazy sounding, but we were friends on facebook and she felt like I didn't send her messages or whatever regularly enough so she de-friended me, and I didn't find out until I had tried to email her for her address verification! I was totally baffled, it was the weirdest email I think I had ever received! DH also is in the process of losing a friend, someone he has known for about 15 years, and they sat on our invite for close to 2 months before turning us down because they 'had other plans' that I know didn't exist when we sent out STD and the invite too...

One of my friends is no longer talking to a girl that she was the MOH for. I don't even know everything that happened and I don't want to ask.

I'm sorry unfortunately I think this is part of getting older, time is more limited and its harder to keep in contact with people- especially ones that have different lifestyles than yours.

I lost one of my best friends right after I got engaged, she got mad at me about something completely unrelated to her (another friend and I were arguing over a bounced check and she took the bounced check girl's side).

I didn't necessarily lose any but I did have a few get more distance. DH on the other hand seemed to lose a few.

I tend to think 30 year old men are more than 13 year old girls. Its so annoying!

i think that sometimes being the bride brings out the worst in people - i, for one, am glad that i was able to see that first hand so that i didn't become the same way.......i notice that a lot of people on here lose friends during their planning - i just made sure that my wedding wasnt my priority when it came to my friends - i knew nobody wanted to hear about my wedding 24/7 for the year and half i was planning and i knew not to boss anyone around....i just made sure not to get carried away - when i wanted to be obsessed with my wedding i came on here instead

Yup! I lost a friend and i am at peace with it now. True colors were shown and I am happy she is not a big part of my life anymore.

I began to keep my distance from some people I thought were friends, but they really weren't. I was the MOH for one of their weddings. I just felt we had drifted apart and there was no use faking that we were BFF. Other people I thought were my friends had no interest in my wedding or anything related to it and I had done a lot for all of their weddings/baby showers etc. I have decided that they really aren't a friend if they can't even tell my congratulations.

ETS: I had never talked about my wedding or anything. People would have to draf info out of me because I just never talked about it. I had been on the end of hearing someone talk about their wedding 24/7 and I wasn't going to be that same person.

I don't know if I lost any friends but I've definitely grown distant from a couple. The wedding only had to do with 1 of them and it's only because I thought it was extremely disrespectful for someone to get that drunk at a wedding. I still speak to her but I have no desire to be close to her.

it is so funny how people show their true colors.... it really is ashame that one of the happiest moments in your life sometimes brings out the worst in people!

That is bad when you do things for other people but they don't for you - I can't wait for my friends to have parties and things that way I can re-live it through them hahahaha.....and also b/c I want to return the favor b/c they made me happy with my shower and wedding and I want to do the same for them....to not even congratulate you is beyond F'd up!

Yep, dh did. It was upsetting at the time, but i think hes ok with it now. Its not to say that if person came back and apologized that he wouldnt forgive them, but there is no way he would ever contact him first.

My relationships aren't the same since I've moved otu of my parents. But life was different. People could call me at 11, 12 at night to do something, anything or nothing and it didn't phase me. Now, DH has to go to bed for work in the morning and many times I want to spend the evening with him.

My friendships are important to me. But circumstances change. When things are inappropriate you need to let them know. It's not always easy.

Re: Losing friends during the wedding?

A mutual friend of ours told us he was coming with a guest to the wedding and the day before sent me an email saying he all of the sudden 'couldnt make it b/c he had to work'

He actually was dumb enough to say he didnt have our phones #'s to call us!!! OK - thats just beyond stupid and insulting

Needless to say we pretty much keep at a distance when we see him.

I have been in a bridal party where the bride was a bridzilla. Paid almost $500 for the BM dress, had to travel for the wedding, had a 3 pg itinerary. etc, etc.

She barely even calls anyone. I feel like I did so much for her and she dropped off the face off the earth

Me too! DH has lost a friend too. It was about 2 weeks before the wedding. He was suppose to be a GM too. They got in a fight and are no longer friendly. I love that b/c he is trash. I also found out people who I thought were freinds were not which hurt.

This is how I was also. I had a cple friends who were recently married or engaged and I spoke to them @ the wedding...but my single friends I tried to only really talk about it when they asked (all my girls asked me hpw things were) but I liked coming on here bc I really didn't think my friends wanted to know that I wasnt sure which color paper to use for my invites

Re: Losing friends during the wedding?

My best friend from college made a point to call me and tell me she was coming to the wedding. She never RSVP'ed, though. I figured since she called, she would be there. The day of, she's a no show!

I was so hurt. I actually emailed her to see if everything was ok. She said she overslept! Yeah, right. She apologized, asked to make plans to give me my gift, etc.

I still haven't called her back to make plans. I don't think I ever will.

I feel like when you are getting married, its life changing. Your getting older, your seeing your life in a different perspective. You start to have different interests.

It has nothing to do with 'wedding planning'. Ive realized that with some relationships, Im just in a different place. Some of my friends arent there yet or are to immature and havent grown up.

This is where relationships get strained. Or people are to selfish to realize it.

Exactly, that's what makes me so angry about it. I can understand why people can't come to things. I mean there have been times I couldn't. I guess that's what happens when I'm the last in that group to get married. Whatever. I have real friends that were there for me all the way and those are real friends. Now I can't wait for their turns!

I agree with this. There are plenty of people that might be jealous that they are not moving on to the next step in their life for whatever reason. It happens. Like you said, they are being selfish and don't realize what they are doing.
