So... I am thinking of doing the 'Master Cleanse'. It is 7-10 days of only lemon juice (That you squeeze yourself so it's fresh) mixed with maple syrup and cayenne pepper. I KNOW- it sounds terrible... but supposedly you get rid of all of your toxins and feel much healthier afterwards... not to mention you lose weight! I spoke to a few people who have done it and they say that they weight stays off and you just feel healthy and great once you are done.... so I am leaning towards giving it s shot- but I figured I would check here first to see if anyone else had any insite!!

before ANYTHING i would speak to your Doctor about it first. friends and people who might have done it---not reliable enough IMO---your doc will know whether its good for YOU or not.
personally i think its a little nuts--i'm sure your Doc could recommend something a little healthier. if you do that for 7-10 days you are receiving no nutrients or protein and your body won't react right. sure you might lose a few pounds, but you'll probably wind up gaining it all back...since its just such an unhealthy way to cleanse.

DH & I did it before Thanksgiving last year.
We had an AMAZING experience... For lack of a better term, I felt cleansed.. I can't describe it... After the 5th day I felt as though i can FEEL energy...
I plan on doing it again sometime soon.. and hopefully continue once a year or so..
I do NOT recommend you do this for weight loss.
If you have any questions, feel free to FM me.
Also--the weight does NOT stay off... Especialloy if you go back to your normal habits.. I lost about 10 pounds and it came RIGHT BACK on...
Its a good way to jump start a healthy lifestyle though... Not for everyone, but I definitely found it to be positive...
my friend has done a juice fast that she swears by because she says it's not like many other cleanses and it has tons of nutrients... it's all fresh veggies that you have to juice yourself in a juicer... only thing is that's she's not too specific about is I think it involves enemas so that's what probably helps get rid of things in your body.
lemon juice is a natural cleanser but I don't think it's the only thing you should be drinking/eating... but I've always been too chicken to try these myself so I can only speak from what i've heard. I am totally with you on wanting to detox and get rid of all the crap in your body - I've also heard that a pure raw food diet is good for this too.

The weight does not stay off. DH has done it twice. Weight comes back on again as soon as you start to eat normally.

Re: Master Cleanse
I did it - I lost 13 pounds. About 5 stayed off. I think that was because it changed my attitude about food a bit. It was really hard. I used limes instead because it tasted better to me. You MUST do the salt water flush or the 'smooth move' type tea. But yes, talk to your doctor.

DH loves the Smooth Move tea. He still drinks it....it's chocolate flavored.

Re: Master Cleanse
I did it and had a bad experience. It wasn't bad at first, but then I started throwing up. The salt water made me throw up every time, so I switched to the tea instead of the salt water. I think I got up to 6-7 days, but couldn't do the full 10 days. It's definitely NOT for weight loss. It's more of a jump start to cleansing your body and getting it ready for a healthy body, IMO. DH's sister has done it about 3 times now and loves it. She has great experience with it, but I couldn't do it. I didn't mind the lemon drink, just put less pepper than it said cause it was too spicy for me. I also started craving real food, so I couldn't do it anymore. Good Luck. There is a forum online that helps. I think someone posted in another post. FM me if you have any other questions about it.

ITA. Talk with a nutrionist/doctor first sonly because everyone handles things differently. I know I have low blood pressure to begin with so i need to eat every few hours or I start gettign lightheaded and hit the deck; literally. Add that to my GERD issues (which i am on meds for because its that severe) so if I tried to do something with lemons and pepers (MAJOR acidity) I would end up in the hospital.
We have done the Aloe Cleanse thing, DH and I. That worked for us. BUT the difference is you still eat while doing it. But you cut out the junk (as with any diet). DH loves the smooth move tea.

Re: Master Cleanse
as others have said, don't do it if its for weight loss bc you can't maintain that once you transition back into your regular eating habits. i heard dr. oz say, though, that it can be a good idea if you need something to jump start you into different eating habits, like if you plan to really change your diet. as for personally, you wouldnt catch me drinking lemon juice and cayenne for 10 days! Id pass out on ya. I need protein and nutrients or I feel faint, not to mention cranky as all get-out. id tear someones head off and eat it on day 2.

Re: Master Cleanse
I watched the episode on Oprah with Dr. Oz- 'Dr. Oz Tells the Truth About Food on Oprah' ...found this article online about it
'Detox Diets
Researchers on 'The Truth About Food' created a detox diet that incorporated principles of many popular detox diets. Ten women who proclaimed they like to party, and drink a little too much, were tested.
The group of ten women was divided into two groups. One of these groups ate a :'detox diet' for a week, while the second group ate a normal balanced diet. The women on the detox diet found the concoctions they drank unpleasant to taste. Urine and saliva samples were tested. At the end of the week there was no difference in toxicity. Dr. Oz said this was because toxins tend to store in the fatty tissue and it would take more than 10 day to get the toxins out of the body.
The detox diets don't cleanse the body in the short amount of time that most people do them. However they can be useful to reset your taste buds and jump start a new diet or nutrition plan.
Conclusion: Short term detox diets are not effective for detoxification, however they are a good way to reset your taste buds and start a new nutrition plan.'

The only problem I had was the first night... I felt feverish and achy but they say that is the toxins leaving your body... But I'm amazed at how energetic I felt after 5 or 6 days... It was spiritual...
Oddly enough I NEVER felt hungry... as long as you consistently drink the lemonade throughout the day.
the biggest hurdle was psychological... I would head home from work and then get depressed bc I realized I couldn't eat anything... You don't realize how COMFORTING food is..
The gross part is you HAVE TO do the salt water flush every morning... we drank smooth move tea at night, to help things along and then at about 5-6am each morning did our *flush*
gross bc you're pretty much p*ssing out your arse... but you're CLEANSING...
as for the nutrients... it's only for 10 days... you're body can last without essential nutrients for longer than that, if you are in relatively good health.
I definitely loved the experience... and as soon as I can, will do it again... (just have to find the time where there isn't something going on that involves GOOD FOOD)

Re: Master Cleanse
I give you credit because i know i would never be able to do this. And i also know this as the beyonce diet, didnt know there was another name.
Just please watch carefully for any side effects, while some will have no problems, ive seen others who couldn't take it. I also did a cleanse but different than this. After the 2nd day i gave up bc i had eaten so little in 2 days and when i saw for dinner i was only going to have 2 slices of ham i said im done. I was feeling horrible, very lightheaded, had a headache all day and very shakey.
No matter how dramatic, a cleanse can be very good for you. I read alot of articles to see what doctors thought about it before i tried it, they said it can help you. But like others said, if its to lose weight then dont do it, during that 7-10 days your stomach shrinks and once you even start eating any food you will put all the weight back on. And when you lose then gain you lose muscle which will make it harder for you next time you try to lose weight.
