OO be careful on that-my MOH did that before her wedding and ended up in the hosppital with dehydration. Its hard to keep up normal routine and do it I have heard.

Re: master cleanse diet

seriously, any diet that mentions the word 'detox' is probably unsafe.

medically speaking, I'm fairly sure there's no such thing as a 'detox' without either shoving charcoal down someones throat (after a poisoning incident) or dialysis of blood (for someone with failing kidneys)

So, 'detox' and 'cleansing' are usually red flag terms signaling someone with questionable medical credientials made up another fad diet or spa treatment.

It likely would be healthier if you instead replaced one meal every day with a large salad with a home-made (no packets/chemicals) vinegrette dressing....

please be careful, and if you feel at all unwell, stop it ASAP.

Re: master cleanse diet

omg. i read this is a diet consisting only of it's a mixture of maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper. you are supposed to fast, and only drink this mixture.

how can that be healthy??? pls be careful. it sounds awful and like it would leave you feeling very weak and sick. no nutrients for your body. i just know how i am and when i dont eat enough, i get head achey, weak and dizzy..this would probably kill me. would Never do it.

It's a Cleanse....I would Never Do it, but my friend at Work did it.

Please BeCareful

Re: master cleanse diet

We've read up on this.... Its a mixture of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. As long as you take proper precaution it's safe.

I'm not going to be stupid... I plan to drink LOTS of water and if I feel weak, I'm going to either stop, or supplement with raw vegetables and a little fruit.

I've had cousins who did this and said they feel AMAZING after it's all done. Of course everyone is different, but apparently you feel revived after a few days.

My husband has been reading this book carefully and reading the testimonials..

I also have to point out that DH and I are in great shape, exercise daily and are very healthy... (I wouldn't do this otherwise) Lately, we have both felt 'poisoned' by the way we have been eating... and want to start fresh.

We're going to try.. And then hopefully continue a healthy lifestyle

It's really unhealthy. It may be safe, but it's not healthy at all.

You'd get the exact same effects, more safely, from a 24-hour fast and then a change to a high fiber diet.

Our bodies don't need to be 'detoxed' and 'cleansed' as fancy marketing makes it seem. Our bodies need to be fed properly. I hate to say it, but you won't realize any health benefits from this 'cleanse' or 'detox.'

I agree with you somewhat... I understand how the human body works. However, I have had many friends and family members who have completed the fast and with positive results. It's not forever...Its a one time thing for me. Regardless, I highly doubt I'm going to complete 10 days

Re: master cleanse diet

DH and I did it. It was great. We are both in good shape as well (could be better though). We did it a few years ago the day after thanksgiving (when you are so sick of food).

We did it for the same reasons it sounds like you are doing. We were sick and tired of the way we were eating, being dependant on caffeine and sugar. The best part about it was that we were craving natural things like nuts, vegetables, etc, when we were done. My brother has kidney problems mainly due to his diet so we did it as a family. We just sequestered ourselves together for the 3 remaining days of the weekend. That was a big help because the first 3 days are kind of rough.

If you are already at a 'normal' weight you won't lose much. I think I lost about a pound and a half over the entire cleanse. My mom lost a bunch though, but as soon as you go back to eating the way you used to it comes back.

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck!!!

why cant people just slowly and safely shift their diet...as you phase out caffeine and refined sugars, integrate more nutritious foods. i don't get it.

I'm not doing it to lose weight. I am in GREAT shape. I'm doing it to cleanse my body of toxins... it creates a form of clarity and balance. Its more of a spiritual thing...So I don't expect anyone to understand but those who have done it.

I can't slowly shift my diet. I don't have the discipline for that. I need to start fresh and clean.

different strokes for different folks dear...

thanks so much. You seem to *get* why I'm doing this. I have a very close friend who had terrible health problems (including mental). She said this was the best thing she's ever done and put her on the right track to recovery.

I don't think we'll do the full 10 days because that would bring us to the Wednesday BEFORE thanksgiving. And I don't think I have the will power to NOT EAT EVERYTHING on Thanksgiving with the big feast my family has... I'm hoping to last until NEXT monday, and then eat home made vegetable soap (and such) for the next 3 days.

I'm not doing this to lose weight. I'm 5'10' and weigh 135 pounds. I run 3 miles EVERY day (minus wknds) and I weight train... Aside from some flab on my belly and my ENORMOUS a$$ (which is genetics) I have a 'perfect' figure. I dont expect to lose any weight, and if I do, I'll probably gain it back within weeks (maybe days) of breaking the fast... I'm hoping this will get us to continue eating healthy because our body won't crave the bad stuff.

This includes alcohol and pot... YES... we smoke pot occasionally.

I'm not a huge eater to begin with. I'm a picker though. During the day I'm fine b/c there aren't many things in my office to eat... When I'm home I like to snack... Bread and cheese are my weakness. Lately DH & I haven't been *snacking* on the healthiest of foods and we feel run down.

With all of this said, I have gone days without eating before (when I was much younger and my metabolism was uber fast...) and I would get weak. If this happens, I will supplement with fruit. But the lemon & maple syrup is supposed to supply you with necessary nutrients so hopefully I won't feel weak enough to quit.

My main concern is the lack of caffeine. I'm a HUGE coffee drinker so I know I'm going to have issues with that... I've switched to decaf within the last week, but I sitll LOOOOOOOOOOVE coffee.

Trust me, we have researched this

Diffrent strokes for different folks as you said. I know some 'doctors' says its ok but I have several phsyicians as friends, and their friends are doctors and they all say nah. They said if you're going to doa cleanse, best to do a one day fast or something like the aloe ease which we did-ypu're still eating normally with it. This type of cleanse, is more like starvation of the body and while I know people who have done it and said they felt great afterwards, i wonder if they wouldn't also feel great after something elss extreme-essentially you're a somalian child for 10 days-eating very little deliberately.

Perosnally, because I have ben to a nutritionist, I would never do it because its a shock to the system; regardless of how well researched it is, its still shocking your body and that always has some eh results attached. You could have great results or negative ones-not really chances I would personally take but hey thats me. I'd probably just lay off the pot and alchohol and take it from there. To say you don't have the restraint to go slow is a bit lazy sounding to me because hey if you're willing to starve yourself for 10 days, thats control isn't it?

Good luck with it.

Re: master cleanse diet

I don't think it is for everyone, but when I added up the calories that are consumed they actually wound up at around 1500 for the day. This is slightly more than I consume on a regular day following a plan like weight watchers.

For DH and I it was that we felt we needed that 'shock'. I fast on Yom Kippur and the hardest part for me was the caffeine. Sometimes to the point where I would get nauseous and physically sick. To rid myself of that as well as not crave sugar, and breads I felt that I needed to do something slightly drastic like that. There were a lot of other benefits we felt as well like clarity of thought, etc.

I just wanted to clarify about the calories because I was pretty surprised when I added them up. I live in perpetual fear of slowing my metabolism so risking starvation is not something that I would do.

UGH always the DH's lol I will say this though-from people i know who have done it, men for some reason tend to do better with it. not sure why but my best friend did it with her DH-he did ok but she ended up hospitalized. Same with another set of friends.

If you're determined, then go for it. Thats your decision, but still feel its a bit extreme. Just do as you plan and listen to your body-dont try to keep up with him. If he's gung ho, thats all well and good but you need to take care of you.

On a side note, I am all for cleansing in te sense of teas and herbal remedies if doen as part of a healthy diet-grandmother was big on those but voluntary starvation.... Been there, done that, NO more. That diet was called Anorexia and unfortunately I guess, this type of cleanse reminds me too much of that I remember what a shock the nutrionist said even a few days without eating is to your system-one of the reasons I believe this is eh....

-chuckles- Of course ya feel great after! You have NOTHING in there! -grins- maybe you should just tell DH to join you for some exlax choxolate time --chuckles- tastes better and you'll get everything out!

But joking aside, just be careful about it. Good luck again.
