master cleanse diet, would you?

master cleanse diet, would you?

i've been thinking about doing a detox of some sort. I've heard a lot about the master cleanse- it's a mixture of maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper. you are supposed to fast, and only drink this mixture.

has anyone done it? thought about it?

not sure how healthy it is for your body but i'v heard people lost 10 pounds ( obviously) and felt really good about themselves afterwards.

any thoughts?

EDITED TO SAY THAT i am not looking to use this solely as a weight lose tool. i am looking to detox. the fact that you shed a few pounds is a bonus.

How long are you supposed to do this for? It sounds horribly unhealthy.

Why are people so against eating healthy, eating less, and exercising to lose weight and stay in shape? I have weight to lose, but I know quick fixes like this aren't the answer...

yes yopu do feel tired and hungry throughout the process but it does 'cleanse' your insides if you follow it correctly.. there is a book out there on it..

i know i would not be able to do it but they did!

One of my bosses tried to do it. She didn't last long--she felt sick and was constantly in the bathroom.

It doesn't seem healthy though.

I can barely take the Special K challenge but I just love food too much I would never have the will power to do something like this

I would last on that for about 10 minutes then I would get hungry. The 10 pounds you lose with that starvation diet would probably all go back on the second you look at a sandwich never mind eat it.
I have started to watch what I eat and go to the gym daily and it's not happening over night but the weight is slowly coming off but the best part is how much energy I have now. I think that just having that drink all day I would need about 5 naps.

i don't like quick fixes either however, i am interested in detoxing. I am looking to cleanse the insides. There is so much junk trapped in the colon and intestines...

master cleanse is a detox. you end up loosing weight with detoxes and colon cleaneses b.c, well, it flushes out your system.

in the end i think i might look into another kind of detox program. i was just wondering if anyone tried the master cleanse..

I detoxed once.

I took something called NutriClean from MarketAmerica--it's a health line. It's a seven-day system and it wasn't so bad. I do it like twice a year.

I used to work with a girl who did it, while she lost some weight, the last couple of days she could barely keep her head up.

Personally I don't know if I could go 10 days without eating anything but a mix of maple syrup and cayenne pepper.

I'd feel awful if I tried that.

Re: master cleanse diet, would you?

I personally have never done it, but my MOH and her mom did before her brother's wedding last year. They caved about 3 days into it and ended up eating 2 pizza pies because they were so hungry. I know my MOH said she was very very tired and she felt sick from what she was eating (because you eat the same foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday and it got sickening). BUT she did say that her skin looked healthier during the process.

Actually, the best thing to 'cleanse' your insides is a high fiber diet... An all liquid diet is NOT cleansing your insides. You'd get a better effect from a 24 hour fast and a high fiber diet after that. Add fiber to your diet slowly so that you don't cramp.

I couldn't agree more!! I'm on a high fiber diet now. Lots of greens, and dried prunes. Yummy!!

i 100% agree. while i'm not necessarily trying to eat a high fiber diet, i altered my eating habits a few years ago and i make sure to eat plenty of fiber and protein each day and it's made a huge difference. while i can understand the 'quick fix', i'm always really afraid of making myself sick. i want to be thin and all, but i also want to be healthy and i just don't really believe that any of those are, however that's JMO.

Re: master cleanse diet, would you?

Not to mention the vast majority of any weight you lose on this diet will be water weight -- much like the first 10 -15pp you lose on Atkins... It has to do with the way your body breaks down and stores carbs. (On Atkins, that initial weight loss is water loss. Any weight loss after that is b/c you've decreased your caloric intake)

You need to eat right and exercise to be healthy -- that's the best 'detox' (really, by starving yourself and drinking this mixture, you're not detoxifying anything) and your best bet for looking and FEELING your best.

I know we all want quick solutions -- but quick solutions are usually unhealthy and almost never long term.

Any weight you lose on this won't be permanent unless you adjust your diet and exercise regime... so why not just adjust your diet an exercise regime and skip the hype?

Re: master cleanse diet, would you?

I never understood the concept of 'cleansing' your insides.

That diet, and all other highly restrictive 'cleansing diets' are all obviously not good for you. It shocks your system, and provides almost no nutritional value.

Eat a good diet every day, with home cooked foods, not too much carb, a moderate portion of lean protein and dairy, and at least 1/2 the food volume being veggies, and there's no need to cleanse.

Sounds unhealthy to me. And the 10 lbs you lose is probably mostly water weight, which you will gain right back. Personally, I would not do it.
