master cleanse diet, would you?

Original post by hunnybunnyxoxo

i've been thinking about doing a detox of some sort. I've heard a lot about the master cleanse- it's a mixture of maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, water and cayenne pepper. you are supposed to fast, and only drink this mixture.

has anyone done it? thought about it?

not sure how healthy it is for your body but i'v heard people lost 10 pounds ( obviously) and felt really good about themselves afterwards.

any thoughts?

EDITED TO SAY THAT i am not looking to use this solely as a weight lose tool. i am looking to detox. the fact that you shed a few pounds is a bonus.

Lisa, you look great. You don't need to lose anything.

sounds like a nightmare.

I, too, go through stages where I want to 'cleanse' my body.

I take the route of 'getting the barnyard out of my body' and go totally vegetarian. This typically lasts about a full week, where I feel awesome, and is followed by a blue cheese burger, which makes me feel even more awesome

If you really want to cleanse, and I am NO nutritionist/MD, I would recommend simply increasing your fiber intake and cutting out everything that is artificial.

just remember that a clense is more for clensing out ur system as opposed to dieting. You usually put the weight right back on when u start eating normal again...so if ur doing it for real clensing purposes and to feel rejuvenated then i'd say go for it...but if u're doing it to lose weight, i'd say no & lose it the right way.

it works very well... but its brutal.

i would do it if i could escape for a few days and not have to work or be mom etc etc

my mom, sister and friend did it..

they loved it!!

yes yopu do feel tired and hungry throughout the process but it does 'cleanse' your insides if you follow it correctly.. there is a book out there on it..

i know i would not be able to do it but they did!

Actually, the best thing to 'cleanse' your insides is a high fiber diet... An all liquid diet is NOT cleansing your insides. You'd get a better effect from a 24 hour fast and a high fiber diet after that. Add fiber to your diet slowly so that you don't cramp.

I couldn't agree more!! I'm on a high fiber diet now. Lots of greens, and dried prunes. Yummy!!

If you don't want to do the fiber diet just make a run to the border for dinner. Taco Bell has amazing cleansing powers.

I did it! I have also done other cleanses.
That one is good b/c you don't eat anything else...the first few days you are hungry and tired but then you get this amazing energy and you don't even want to look at food! Yes you lose weight but that should really be the reason. If you come back from it too quickly and start eating normal right away you can gain it all back.

Try DrNatura

I love this one b/c you do it for either a month or two or three and you can eat...(but try to eat healthy). It cleanses your colon and you feel great...(before my wedding I lost about 1 pounds doing this and eating very healthy....but on the honeymoon i totally pigged out and gained it ALL back)...I am cleansing again now.

It's called a cleanse for a reason. If you really stick to it, it will clean out your whole GI system which means a lot of time in the bathroom. If you do decide to try this at home I recommend you do it on a weekend when you don't have something planned. Please make sure you research this thouroughly though. I know tht after a cleanse you are suppose to re-introduce food slowly and in a specific order or you can make yourself sick.

This really isn't a method used for dieting. The focus of it is to 'pump out' your GI track to get it to work more efficiently.

Be careful!!!
