Mention amount of gift in Thank-you??

I know you are supposed to make mention of what the gift was, but if it was a check, or cash, do you actually have to mention the amount? I've done it on some, and it kind of feels tacky. But I am afraid if I don't, people may think it is just a standard TY message that I repeat on each card. Thanks for your help!

ex: Thank you so much for your $150 check, or thank you so much for your generous gift.

I am also explaining that it will help us in our saving for a house.

no, i would not mention the amt. Just thank them for the generous gift.

definitely ettiquette to just say generous gift...

you can personalize the TY by mentioning how you will use it or say something about the day and them...

I would not mention the amount either. I think 'generous gift' OR EVEN 'very generous gift' is enough.

nope, don't mention the amount. then it looks like you are keeping tabs on who gave you what (which of course, we are all doing, but it's not polite to admit to it

) so just say thank you for the generous gift, this will go a long way towards... the honeymoon, fixing up the house, etc.

No, I didn't mention the amount...I just mentioned 'generous' or 'very generous' gift.

Thanks girls. I'll go back and re-write, or white-out if I can, the 10 or so TY's I've done with the amounts listed. I agree with the consensus and am glad I asked!
