MIL's

Original post by SFAR89

So, we all have our stories. What is the worst thing your mother in law has ever said to you. Not counting anything that was said at the wedding.

I should probably post mine hehe

I was having major heart issues and kidney issues and blood pressure issues, and I was telling MIL about all of what was going on b/c at the time we were close still. She made it very clear that she doesn't like doctors, and thinks that they only are out for your money. She turned around and said 'If you were my daughter, this wouldn't be happening'. I felt like it was such a dig at my own mother, and the fact that she hates doctors so much that she would let her daughter or son suffer just really bothered me. If her son was having the complications that I was having, I am sure she would've rushed him to a doctor. It just hurt me...and made me start to see her in a different light.

Another time was before my Bridal Shower, she asked me to help her with the favors. As we were sitting there I asked her about the BP and if anyone offered to help. She said no one offered at all. I know that one BM did actually, and then I asked if my mom had offered. She sad 'nope'. At first I was really upset...my mom wouldn't do this. So I took my mom to the side at the BS and confronted her about it. She sad 'I emailed her and said that if she needed help with anything to let me know, She emailed me back and told me no and thank you.' It made me so angry to hear that my MIL actually lied to me...I mean ***??? Then she started talking **** about my mom to everyone at my shower. MY mom has worked harder than she will ever have in her entire life, and she didn't deserve to be treated that way.

Re: MIL's

I have a pretty awesome MIL...I really am lucky.

The only time we had a misunderstanding was when I had fwded something I had seen on here on Rules or Guidlines for Wedding guests...I can't even remeber the exact title. Anywhoo, she took it as me taking a dig at DH's family because they are large and can be loud. I told her I actually sent it to everyone on my email list and that it was meant more to be funny. That's the only time she got offended and we actually had to have a talk.

The only thing that annoys me about her is her smoking and the fact that sometiems she can't stand up to some of her kids.

Actually I am pretty proud of my relationship with my MIL now. Before we were engaged and during the planning she made these comments about me being spoiled and a princess. A lot of the stuff that I did for the wedding that 99% of brides do she thought was insane and totally over the top

BUT

since we got married and I have been doing 100% of the cooking, cleaning, laundry, bill paying and generally taking care of the household AND her son. . . she treats me of more of an equal now and we get along great! I actually miss not seeing her every day like I did before DH moved out!

i'm very fortunate, my MIL is great. we get along. we're not close, there's a bit of a language barrier, but we get along great. however she suffers from serious foot in mouth syndrome. example:

on new year's day we were all out to eat, and it was time to order desert. i was the only one who didn't want desert (i like sweets, but i don't overdo it like DH's family can), so she says just out loud 'oh, they say sweets are what make you fat, but you never eat sweets'. yeah, i felt really good that day.

Re: MIL's

mine is great, i dont have any complaints.....

she did say something before we got married about our marriage 'not counting b/c it wouldnt be under the eyes of god' - she wanted us to get married in a church (ahem, she doesnt even GO to church ) so when it came out that we weren't doing the church thing she was a little upset by it - i was understanding though, i could see why it irked her....the closer it got to the wedding the less and less she cared and after the wedding was over she said the ceremony was the best one she's ever seen and she is so glad that we didnt do church b/c our ceremony was amazing - and she admitted she was wrong for thinking otherwise....

but at the time that comment hurt a little bit - but i know she didnt mean it maliciously, it actually came up on easter during dinner and she said she doesnt even remember saying it - and i believe her, i just think it was one of those things that slipped out and wasnt said to be hurtful.....

i think maybe after we move and start havings kids things may change...not sure though....

some of you have pretty F'd up MILs - i feel bad for you guys!!

Wow, That is F'd up. That would've hurt me also. I mean, she just sounded so bitter. I don't get it. :( Ugh..and then the check...it was like she was playing a mind game with you! Not fair.

yeah, it was CRAZY!! She's always been one of 'those' kinds of grandmas so it really shouldn't have surprised me as much as it did. But she was just acting insane to my entire family. She would just snap at every single one of them. The only reason I confronted her on the letter was because i needed to shut her up so that she stops being mean to my mom & dad who had nothing to do with anything. She's one of the reasons that I was happy to move away after the wedding (and yeah, that gift still confuses me)

Re: MIL's

Well I have vented before about my MIL, she is a nightmare. I must say she doesn't just attack me she goes after her kids as well. In the past week she has called me a piece of sh*t, and told me to shut the f*ck up. Those things hardly affect me at all anymore. Since we aren't talking about the stuff she said at the wedding, I guess I can leave out she thinks I made DH marry me (as in forced him). The worst thing she has ever said to me is that she doubts I can have children (and she said in front of DH family). She knows I have pcos and is always telling everyone that I probably won't be able to have children, and she knows I want to be a mom. It really hurts me.

Holy sh1t what a total BITTCH. I would have kicked her in the teeth. I really would have.

you girls are making me realize how lucky I am. My MIL and I have very similar personalities yet we don't clash at all - my only issue is that she still babies her son but that's really his fault for going over there still everyday

Re: MIL's

Went to my MIL for St. Patricks day dinner. I mentioned that I have a little cold.. most likely allergies for about a week now,, sniffles and stuffy nose.

Then I get a call the next day, while I am working from MIL, she says 'I hope I am not crossing the line,,, but I think that you are pregnant. It look like you're pregnant'
I told her that I am not pregnant and highly doubt it. She continues to say she didn't know she was pregnant with my DH till she was 2 months in and that she 'really feels i am pregnant, and babies aren't a bad thing', all because I am run down and tierd. She continued to ramble, and tell me 'to get over your issues with children'.

We have said we are not trying or planning on children and she just continued. I said I wasn't and she said I should 'look into it'

I got her off the phone and called DH.. I was sooooo P'Od

I have some real good ones but they are too R rated for here. LOL, I wish my MIL would see what I write about her because I am too nice to say it to her face.

What doesn't she say! lol She is a terror sometimes. Everytime I see her she constantly brings up that I should quit my job, and asks my dh if I'm looking. I'm lucky I have a job in this economy. She also said something about my mom which ticked me off..my mil was complaining about working extra hours and she said well your mom hardly works (my mom works part time), that must be the life..it was horrible. Mind you MY PARENTS PAID FOR THE WHOLE WEDDING!
