So, we all have our stories. What is the worst thing your mother in law has ever said to you. Not counting anything that was said at the wedding.
I should probably post mine hehe
I was having major heart issues and kidney issues and blood pressure issues, and I was telling MIL about all of what was going on b/c at the time we were close still. She made it very clear that she doesn't like doctors, and thinks that they only are out for your money. She turned around and said 'If you were my daughter, this wouldn't be happening'. I felt like it was such a dig at my own mother, and the fact that she hates doctors so much that she would let her daughter or son suffer just really bothered me. If her son was having the complications that I was having, I am sure she would've rushed him to a doctor. It just hurt me...and made me start to see her in a different light.
Another time was before my Bridal Shower, she asked me to help her with the favors. As we were sitting there I asked her about the BP and if anyone offered to help. She said no one offered at all. I know that one BM did actually, and then I asked if my mom had offered. She sad 'nope'. At first I was really upset...my mom wouldn't do this. So I took my mom to the side at the BS and confronted her about it. She sad 'I emailed her and said that if she needed help with anything to let me know, She emailed me back and told me no and thank you.' It made me so angry to hear that my MIL actually lied to me...I mean ***??? Then she started talking **** about my mom to everyone at my shower. MY mom has worked harder than she will ever have in her entire life, and she didn't deserve to be treated that way.

Re: MIL's
I will preface this by saying that DH's mother is a HUGE holy roller...
Sooooooo when DH and I were moving in together a year before we got engaged, & the night we moved in we had dinner over his parents house. During her little homily at the dinner table she asked Jesus to help DH & I find the front door since we decided to take the back door (Ssatan). For some reason it was starred out
Needless to say the back door worked out just fine... And Cassandra if you're reading this (That's What SHE SAID!)

Good for you! I actually always keep my mouth shut. I never say what I feel b/c I know she is the type of person that wont sit there and argue, and I need to argue and figure out what the hell she is thinking. So I just bottle it up and hope it doesn't kill me. =D

I just pick my spots with her. And you should too! After we got engaged her whole attitude towards me changed .
If my MIL pulled that little stunt with my Bridal Shower I would've confronted her about it.

I just can't. I don't like confrontation. I just dislike her very much now after last year. She treated me horribly and took advantage of me.
I had a makeup trial one day and they were all going to the last day at Shea or Yankee stadium and I didn't go b/c of the trial. She asked me in front of everyone 'what are you doing today' I said 'I told you, I have my makeup trial , I am going with my mom' She turns around in front of everyone and says 'how long does that take??' I said ' I don't know' She goes 'Clean the bathroom when you get back okay?' As if I was Cinderella. I didn't say a word, just walked away and closed the bedroom door.

that really suckss. Sometimes I feel like MILs act that way because they're jealous of their son/daughter having 'another' mother. They have this notion to prove that they're the BETTER of the two (esp when it comes to the grandkids). Grow up please!
And Jane - Classic 'thats what she said'!!! You made my day.

Re: MIL's
Oh, and to add to my above post I feel as though I should share my own MIL moments, but I'm not sure that I even have one. She's a pretty cool chick.
HOWEVER - if you want a story, my GRANDMOTHER just cannot be beat.
Exactly 2 weeks before my wedding, she wrote a letter to my mother (she's my mom's MIL) and asked her to share it with me. In it she began talking about financial stress and then mentioned the upcoming wedding. To quote her, she said 'Cassandra should ELOPE - one can't have it all.' And yes, the word 'elope' was underlined THREE TIMES to make her point And what did she even mean 'to have it all'. I had a small wedding with only maybe 80 guests, which we planned and paid for ourselves. Is that having it all???
Then she started complaining about how i never let her see the guest list (and it's true - I told her no when she 'demanded' i give it to her. Me & DH were paying for the wedding COMPLETELY ON OUR OWN so it was none of her business who was on my guestlist - esp since she wanted me to invite distant family members that I haven't spoken to in years. I couldn't afford that!!!)
And then she goes on to say that maybe we were all hoping that she'd be dead for the wedding. Okay? I don't even know WHERE she got that!
At the end of the long letter, she wrote 'Share this letter with Cassandra! If she's too young to handle it on her own, then she's too young to get married'
W.T.F?? Mean old lady, I tell you!! Now THAT was hurtful! I actually cried when I read this letter - completely outraged that a person could be that cruel to their own grandchild. And i was NEVER mean to her either. I've done nothing to deserve it. I confronted her on it though and told her that her letter seemed to be written by a crazy lady and I can not possibly even respond to something as ridiculous. But seriously - she gave HELL to my family that whole month leading up to the wedding. I don't know what her deal was.
Then even at the wedding, she was just kind of like 'whatever' - - - and then we opened her card later that night and inside was a check for over $1,000. So i'm still like 'what was all that??????'
Maybe the gift was her way of apologizing???? Either way I am GLAD that I've at least got me a good MIL. No drama there!
Ooooooppp's I didn't read the rules, sorry it was a wedding day story.
On our wedding day, she was drunk, that's nothing new. And she called me my DH x wife's name. I can't take her, it so funny how messed up she really is. I don't let her get to me. I think I should get an award for the worst MIL.
And just to add it was while guest were in CH we didn't even walk into the room yet and she almost ruined me.

Re: MIL's
when I had my hair trial... everyone loved it, but not MIL, she said 'that's what you're going with?!'....
she's the type of bitter old bat that can't compliment someone, always has to get her way, always has something to say, and makes people feel guilty... like sfar89, I can't deal with confrontation, so I just bit my tongue and nod and hope I don't burst into flames lol
I keep editing because I remember more and more dirt! lol I've tried to block it over time to keep the sanity lol..... at my shower, she was making loud, rude comments about my guests to other guests... about one of my guests she said 'what is she wearing? don't people check the mirror'... about one of my BM's she said 'is she pregnant?' 'she looks pregnant!' (she was NOT pregnant!!)... and omg she wasn't even discreet, i was mortified! then when I opened one of my grandmother's gifts she said to my grandmother (out loud so everyone could hear) 'oh how pretty! how much did you pay for that?' who asks that??? then she was complaining to everyone how stressed out she was with our upcoming wedding, and how much DH & I were working her... for the record, she did not lift one finger at any time from the moment we got engaged to the moment we said I DO!! she was a guest at her own sons wedding, and she did not pay one dime!!! she's frigging nuts!!!!! she loves attention!!!
She calls up my mother and complains to her that DH & I don't go visit her anymore since we're married now and we don't need her anymore (which isn't even true, we do go visit, but if she had her way we'd be there 24/7 for the torture fest), and she asks my mom how often do they come visit you, and tries to get my mother involved!!!

Re: MIL's
i don't have specific stories, but I just see my MIL in a different light since we've been married. my mom is also not thrilled with her, so she unfortunately feeds into my head and i hear my mom bitching about MIL in the back of my head and it pisses me off more! My ILs are different people then my parents, so I look at them differently which isn't completely right i know. plus, i did hear some stories about how my MIL and SIL didn't really help AT ALL for my shower, so it shows how much they cared!
I haven't had enough balls to tell DH. I don't want to be like that at this point anyway. Maybe down the road i'll open my mouth more!
