Re: mini-vaca
I recently came back from a road trip to Orlando, FL for a week and had a blast. We went to Disney World, Universal Studios and Cocoa Beach. We stayed at a villa in Oaks Plantation with a pool, gym, laundromat, and complimentary breakfast. I would recommend to take the plane unless you can really drive. Our trip took 22 hours from NY to Orlando with 2 hr. break and pit stops. Florida has the best weather with abundant sunshine. We got a great tan and relax so much during our trip. I think it would be a nice getaway for you and DH esp if you're looking to go somewhere relaxing to get away from the stress of the city.

How about Newport, RI? Dh and I went there last spring for along weekend...I don't know where you live but we and our car took the ferry to Ct from Orient Pt (eastern LI) then drove it off the ferry and drove to Newport...we stayed in a B'n'B in town and toured the historical mansions, ate on the wharf, did the cliff walk and had a great time.

We went to a B&B called Deer Hill Inn in Vermont. There's skiing in the winter (I don't know if it's too early in September) and lots of little towns, historical things, and hiking to do the rest of the year. The Inn itself was amazing. Best food I ever ate in my life (we were depressed when we left simply because we would never eat food that good again), really relaxing, and the couple who run it are constantly there to meet you every need.
