Minor Accident-

OK.....i was on Hillside Avenue in Queens around 5pm....rush hour, as it is, its so bad driving there for those of you know that know.
There are endless amount of traffic lights, and cars coming from like all direction.

Anyways... i got myself in to a minor accident. My foot slipped and i had a very short distance between my car and the car infront of me a 1990 Altima (beat up) and i hit the car from the back. I did feel it, and no damage was done to my car. but the car infont of me only had a small dent on it i believe, i honestly couldnt even tell because theyre were already so many scratches on the car.

I turned my blinkers on, they got out of the car (furious) and yelled at me we have small children in the car what the hell r u doing etc etc...Theyre was a young husband and wife of SpanisH descent and theyre two kids in the back.

i Said im very sorry...and they looked at theyre car and LEFT..... i was puzzled.... they didnt tell me to pull over no where... so i thought it was over...

i did not have any damage on my car so i did not call the cops ..god knows if i should have ? i just panicked, and was nervous...

Anyways so i lost them in traffic, and after driving i saw them again...they proceeded to honk at me and told me to pull over to the gas station... so i did. At the gas station she showed me her alleged cars damage....and said she wants money. At this point i only had 50$ in my bank account, and i said if she wants she can call the police, She replied 'No this is my sister car, my husband doesnt have a license. (I i dont know if this mean he didnt have it on him, or he doesnt have one period, or if hes illegal).' She said she has two small kids in the car, and her husband can get arrested for not having a license so i said okay...she stated she wanted 300$ for the damages, and i told her ok well work it out, she gave me her house address and name and number. And i only gave her my name and my cell number...

and than they left.

_______________
I dont know what to make of this? Out of all honesty, i felt bad because theyre car did jolt and they had kids in the back......and theyre car had NO RIMS, and dents all over it...it was a green old Altima. She tried to point out some scratch on the back...and i was like are u sure i did this? and the lady wa slike yes yes..u did..

My husbands horrified at my behavior, he thinks i shouldve taken pics etc etc and i was stupid...which i guess i am but im really bad in situations like this. Should i be contacting them first? What can they do, epsecially if her husband did not have a license, and she really did not want to call the police? What if she wants more money, then id like go through insurance....

i have NO witnesses....and i guess neither do they, but theres 2 of them... so god knows i just dont want them to make up some bigger story than the occurrence really was. In addition, no police report was filed

I am so sorry that happened to you.

I'm not really sure what else you could have done. I'm sure you were a bit in shock especially with people screaming at you

I would wait to see if the contact you. If not try to forget it. If the guy didn't have a license I highly doubt they had insurance. Sounds like she was trying to get some cash out of you. Losers.

I agree. If they were legit they would have just called the cops and went through insurance.

change your number.

if he had no license, then he SHOULDN'T have been driving.

Should have called the cops... sorry. I know you were in the wrong, but te cops should always be called with regard to an accident b/c they could ALWAYS change their story with the insurance company.

You just gave them your #? Don't answer the phone or say they have teh wrong #...if they were so adamant about the damage then THEY should have let YOU call the cops.

Or you can offer to have YOUR mechanic lok at the car to assess the damage. I know you feel guilty but you tried to do the right thing & they refused. she can't just TELL You she wants 300.00 she'd have to have the car looked at first.

they probably already had the scratch on the car and figured after they left they could get you to pay for it.

then just don't answer your phone if you dont recognize the #... I know you feel bad but I'm sure you didn't do any damage.. and if they were legit they would have asked for the right information... not money.

Re: Minor Accident-

sounds very shady to me. I think maybe they were trying to get money out of you. I would consider filing a police report on your own. I wouldn't mention that your foot slipped. I would just say there was an accident. And I would tell them she said he didn't have a license, as that is obvioulsy illegal.

I just had a thought OMG maybe he had a license but had a warrant out on him or something...

Re: Minor Accident-

for future reference, if you are EVER in an accident... take a photo of the damage with your cell phone. get the other persons license # and insurance #.

Call the cops when all possible... but if the OTHER person doesnt want to go through insurance (if it was your fault) ...Sometimes it's better to fix it outside of insurance as long as you take pics... you might get screwed if theire 'estimate' though but your rates won't go up.

Ive done that before.

Honestly, I have to agree with your husband on this one .... I wouldn't have even moved my car from the original place of the accident, and I would have taken pictures (you could have used your cellphone if it has a camera phone on it). Its not your fault that her husband was driving without a license, or is in the country illegally, or whatever their situation might be. Leaving the scene of an accident is ... well, just that!

I once hit someone lightly and the only mark were 2 little indents from the screw of my liscense plate and they saw how upset and sorry I was so we exchanged info and he said he would get a quote and let me know how much it was . He never called and that was 5 yrs ago so I guess he just paid for it himself

If you feel that you should give them some money for the dent, then you can contact them (along with DH) and do it that way. Pay whatever you feel is right, not what they demand.

If they dont' have a license - they probably don't have insurance and i don't think they're going to file an official claim.

Bottom line - pay them something if you want to, but don't feel pressure by their empty threats (if any arise)

NO! DO NOT CALL THEM! He was driving without his license and she's trying to extort you for money. You threaten to call the cops on HER *** for her husband not having a license. I know I sound like a jerk but the reason they left the scene the minute it happened was cause they realized her husband should not have been driving and then she wanted money. Im sorry but I would not call and I would have cursed her a$$ out.

I would NOT call them.
It is obvious that they do not have insurance/license & will get into big trouble. They are stupid for trying to get $$ from you.
If they call, I would tell them that you told the cops on them or something.

I would not give them a Cent.

It was an Accident on your Part.
