Thanks to Kristen for picking me. I hope I can do as good a job as she did.
So, here's the question:
Money is supposed to be one of the biggest 'trouble spots' for couples. Do you and DH fight about money or are you on the same page? Who pays the household bills and sets the budget? Do you ever 'hide' purchases from DH?

Well for us, DH and I don't really argue but we're not always on the same page either. I'm a spender - he's a saver. I call him my miser!
Because we're both older, we have a very complicated bill paying system. We both maintain our own savings and checking accounts but have a joint savings account. I pay the mortgage and the majority of the household bills. DH pays the credit card bill, the cell phones and any small bills that pop up. He also puts a set amount of money into our joint savings account each month. We are lucky in that we basically live off of my salary and bank his.
I don't really hide purchases from him, but if he's being particularly miserly that week, I have been known to keep things in my trunk until I can sneak them into the house or lie about how much I've spent. . I can't help myself!

Well money is going to be extremely tight with me and DH since we just bought a house...
we do fight about money every so ofen, and its usually because im super nervous and know that once the mortage/bills, etc come its going to be super tight, and DH is all like oh we will be fine! because he doesnt sit there and do the math like i do!!
i def and the one that handles the money and stuff because DH is horrible with paying bills on time, so sometimes i feel like im nagging him about stuff related to his bills or money for our bills, but im so the opposite! i pay my bills the day the statement comes out, i dont wait till the due date!
but because im also the one that knows how to save money and budget my money, sometimes i do buy myself some cloths or shoes (never expensive stuff) but if i order it online i have it delivered to my parents house and say my mom bought it for me, and if i get it at lunch one day, i tell him my mom took me shopping at lunch! i never spend alot so i dont see the harm in that sometimes!

We never argue about money. DH makes about twice what I make so he pays the larger share of our shared expenses. I give him a set amount of money every week and he pays all of our bills.
Interestingly he does not have his own savings account. I do and that is 'my' money ... I hardly ever touch it except for if we go on vacation or something. We both have our own checking accounts and a joint savings account that we put all gifts, tax refunds, etc. into.
DH is a very generous man and I'm very frugal so the only arguing we ever do is him insisting to pay for something for me and me refusing or crying and feeling bad because I hate to borrow/accept money from anybody. I am a lucky lady.

DH and I are mostly on the same page, although I’m way more of a saver and he’s more of a spender. He’s gotten MUCH better at his spending though, other than his “guys night out” at Bryant and Cooper.
He pays all the bills for now but we’re going to get a joint checking account soon so we can take turns.

We used to fight about money because I am a spender and he is a saver but we worked it out so that I have a monthly 'allowance'. We have separate savings and checking and a joint savings where all our wedding money gifts went into. The household bills are a diff story....I pay the gas. The electric and water are included..he pays for the cable & phone.
I dont hide purchases since now I am on a budget. I used to though, LOL!!!

Re: MONDAY 4/26/10 NWQOTD
We don't fight crazy about money, but we really do struggle with money a lot. We are in debt and having a pretty hard time paying it off with our low salaries and high rent. DH handles all the bills and budgeting, but I really don't stick much to budgets. Neither of us are very good at sticking to budgets, honestly.
I am the big spender though...I love to buy clothes, shoes, purses...I don't just want these things, I NEED them...at least that's what I tell DH. I do hide some purchases from him...but he's gotten smarter over the years and he notices when I wear something new. The excuse that I borrowed it from Lauren doesn't work anymore!

I feel much better knowing I'm not the only one who 'hides' purchases from DH!!!

BTW, DH and I fight a lot about money - which is silly. I think he's too cheap sometimes and tell him all the time that he can't take it with him.
We're currently fighting about going on vacation in August......DH doesn't want to spend the money - I on the other hand think we HAVE to go.

we have our money seperate which i think is the best way to stay out of fights - we never fight about money
i pay the mortgage and the phone bill
he pays the cable and the maintenance
than we both pay our seperate bills and purchase what we want in reason
we do whatecer we want with our money

Vacations I cannot compromise on!!! He tells me all the time they are not required and I told him I would rather not go out on the weekends than not go on vacation...he almost flipped when I told him we are going to italy and its going to cost $3k for 7 days!!! plus food but oh well..I want to go to europe. I paid for it so he has to go. Next yr will be fun since we have a destination wedding to go to in june plus I want to go away for my 30th bday..prob paris and he already is putting up a fight. I really dont care what he thinks about vacations cause I plan them plus I pay for them so he just enjoys.

me and DH faught a little this weekend about money, a little of the opposite how it normally is, he didnt want to go to my cousins bachelor party in AC cuz he knew he would spend a lot and lose money, and i said for him to go cuz once we get the mortgage bills coming we wont be able to go places like that, and guess what he won $300!!!!
we are buying this cute out door couch, chair, and coffee table thing from bbb that is $299 with the winnings! glad i pushed him to go!

I know that set you are talking about! DH and I had already ordered our set when we saw it, but if we didn't have one already we would have gotten it.
We did get the Lazy Boy recliner they have for our hot tub room though.

Believe it or not the vacation we are fighting about is Disney v. Non-Disney. We both have a week off in August (the only time this year I was able to get off when he had off since his vacation time gets assigned AND his was all in January/February which is my busy season at work). I want to go to an island and plop down on a beach - I keep telling him we can do an AI resort for about $3,000. He keeps saying we should go to Disney since it's so cheap for us. I am going to Disney in a couple of weeks (without him) and really don't want to go to FL in August!
Of course, what I'm really scared of is my vacation turning into a visit with the ILs - I'm afraid he's going to say they're going to meet us there!

Re: MONDAY 4/26/10 NWQOTD
We do sometimes agrue about money, more about how to spend it. We were just deciding on countertops in the kitchen and how much, that type of stuff.
I pay all the bills and set the budget for the month. And I definitely hide purchases, I know its bad but its always little stuff, I wouldn't hide a big purchase.

Re: MONDAY 4/26/10 NWQOTD
We never argue over money.
DH makes more than I do he pays most of the bills...and then I pay my bills. We are both very organized with our stuff and then whatever is left we save some or I'll ask him for $$ to go shopping and he gives it to me.
I don't hide purchases b/c I'm too excited to show him what I bought.

Re: MONDAY 4/26/10 NWQOTD
We are both pretty much on the same page...we're both uber-cheap. We both have certain things we're more liberal on. I'd rather spend a lot of money on hotel accommodations, whereas DH would rather cheap out there, but DH spends much more money on himself for hobbies and clothing whereas I rarely buy myself new things. He thinks I'm too liberal with food shopping, but I only go once a week so 80-120 isn't too bad at all I think. But overall we're pretty good.

We don't hide purchases but we do disagree about the use of credit cards. Sadly while he was on salary cut we built up debt but I want to get rid of it and be done with it. Even if it puts off other things we want to do for a while.
