MONDAY 4/26/10 NWQOTD

Happy Monday Ladies!

Thanks to Kristen for picking me. I hope I can do as good a job as she did.

So, here's the question:

Money is supposed to be one of the biggest 'trouble spots' for couples. Do you and DH fight about money or are you on the same page? Who pays the household bills and sets the budget? Do you ever 'hide' purchases from DH?

We are both pretty much on the same page...we're both uber-cheap. We both have certain things we're more liberal on. I'd rather spend a lot of money on hotel accommodations, whereas DH would rather cheap out there, but DH spends much more money on himself for hobbies and clothing whereas I rarely buy myself new things. He thinks I'm too liberal with food shopping, but I only go once a week so 80-120 isn't too bad at all I think. But overall we're pretty good.

OMG - Ali he would hate me - I spent $140 just on Saturday (we were having company yesterday but still). I easily spend $150 - $175 a week.

When I was working FT we rarely fought about money, but now that I only work PT and collect unemployment we fight about money. We have our money separate from each other and DH pays the mortgage and I pay all the other house bills along with my regular bills, but now he has to give me money towards some of those bills so he starts a fight about it.

Most of the time I hide all purchases from DH because he will complain that I was spending money when I shouldn't be

We don't fight about $$ we are just struggling and just getting by. We have student loans and credit card debt that I wish would go away DH has not been working so we are living off my salary. I don't hid purchases and he does not care that I go shopping. I tell him what I buy I just don't think he realized how expensive some of the stuff is like my makeup - oh well. I am in charge of managing the bills and $$ told DH I had to be once we got married and he does not mind.

We only fight about it when DH's money starts to burn a hole in his pocket and he has to buy all these toys that he doesnt need... I hardly spend... on anything... so I think his overspending balances us out

I pay all the bills from our joint acct... He pays the mortgage from his personal acct

Nope, I dont hide anything from him... And I have access to his personal acct so I see everything he spends his money on since he uses debit for everything

We never fight about money. We are both definitely on teh same page & since Im anAsst. Comptroller i def have a better handle but he is really good as well. So we are both trusted with paying bills etc.

We really dont have a household budget & i never & he never hides any purchases made. How could we? We have access to each others everything! lol

We don't 'fight' about money but he's certainly better at managing it than I am.

We've been saving like crazy lately and I really need new clothes and I was complaining about it recently. Well Friday he comes home and says that our neighbor gave him this card that was in his mailbox instead of ours. It was addressed to me and had a postage stamp on it and everything. I open it up and it's a card from DH with $150 in it and a note to buy myself something nice. We share all of our money so it's not like it was 'his' money to give me but still, it just melted my heart that he thought of me, went out and got a card, and had it stamped at his job. He even wrote my name and our address in a different handwriting to throw me off. Sometimes he's just too good!

We never fight about money. We've had a joint checking account for years, since way before we were married. All the money goes in there and that's what we pay our bills from. As for hiding purchases, I could never do it. I would feel sooo guilty.

We do fight about money because we dont have any.
I am the one that does the budget and pays all the bills and this is one big reason why we fight. He never sees where the money goes since Im the one always doing the bills. But like I tell him me being this way with money got me to where I am as a single mom and with no help from the state or the sprem donor, so I must be doing something right.

we have our money seperate which i think is the best way to stay out of fights - we never fight about money

i pay the mortgage and the phone bill

he pays the cable and the maintenance

than we both pay our seperate bills and purchase what we want in reason

we do whatecer we want with our money

We do the same thing. Its so much easier having seperate. We NEVER fight about money. Plus we are saving in a joint and a personal savings.

We fight about money sometimes bc DH is in credit card debt and I am not. I can't live peacefully if my credit card carries a balance. If I cannot afford to pay my card in full each month, I won't buy things...plain and simple. He doesn't get that...he thinks that is what credit cards were made for! ugh

The rule DH and I live by .... only use AMEX! It has to be paid off in full each month. You learn very quickly you can't go crazy charging. I used to put EVERYTHING on my AMEX (even my rent) and then just pay one check each month. It worked well enough to get us enough points for 2 R/T first class tickets to Hawaii for our HM!

DH was complaining that I spend too much at the supermarket,......so I made him go.......he spent only $5 less....we didnt have everything we needed, and most of the fruit had to be thrown out becasue he didnt make sure it was fresh!!

Oh and he thought we need two packages of pork-shops for one dinner...we had one of his friends over, had left overs one night and then I ended up throwing up the rest....

Re: MONDAY 4/26/10 NWQOTD

we used to fight about money more then we do now...DH owns his own business, so when his business doesn't get paid, we don't get paid. but thank god things are ok now, and my job is good. so we have been able to become credit card debt free as of next week!!! im dying!

we live on a strict household budget, everything is mapped out from gas to spending money ($25 a week ) to food shopping (with my 'spurges' from the butcher, about $50 a week. i go to 3 different stores to get the best deals, and only buy what i need. about once every six weeks i spend about a hundred on food.)

and yes, i hide purchases from DH. clothes are not included in personal spending money (IMO its something you need, so its not a personal spend) so i will hide some Ann Taylor Loft or WHBM bags in my car for a bit before bringing them in.

we have combined all of our money since we were engaged. we had nothing going into this marriage, and we are so young, that any money either of us makes, is our money.
