* - Monday NWQOTD - *

Original post by springsandra

Good morning newlyweds! Hope today has been a relatively painless transition for those of you who went back to work after a long hiatus! (Who am I kidding? It was probably awful...)

So here's today's QOTD! For your pondering (and answering) pleasure:

Do you ever want to stop working and stay at home to become a 'housewife' (a modern one, I don't mean Donna Reed)?

Would DH ever want to become a 'househusband'?

or is working, a job, and an outside career something that both of you never plan to give up?

You ladies are flooring me with your answers! I love that so many of you have thought about this, and how many different types of people we are here.

Thanks for making me feel good about my QOTD!! I love hearing all your points of views!

I could never do it. I would love to spend time with my future children and intend to take time off or switch to a more accommodating career....but I can't imagine not bringing home income. As much as I believe in 'what's mine is yours'.....there's a certain voice that comes with bringing home a large income.

I would love to be a Donna Reed mommy, but I am too feminist for that. What I am planning on doing, though, is working out of a home office so that I can be around for my kids. I need to work, though. It's too important to me. And I think DH would consider being a Mr. Mom if I asked him too, but we both want to be filthy stinking rich. No, but seriously, we had a long talk about things and basically came to the conclusion that we want to be able to live in Westchester AND send our kids to any college they want with no loans, pay for a Masters, AND live comfortably. So we'll need to both be working, and making a lot of money. So yeah...no easy life for either of us!

I would give up my full time position in a heartbeat, for something that was only one or two days a week. I would also love to not have to work when we have children, but unfortunately, that won't be an option. I am, by nature, the 'housewife,' but DH helps a ton. I always say, if you could afford to have me stay home, I would do all the work!!

DH would NEVER be a house husband. He owns his own business, and loves what he does for a living, and he would never leave his profession. He had the week off, and was so bored and lazy, he wanted to go back after the second day!

What I am doing now is just a job, and although it is a great job, it is just a job. I truly feel that I was put on this earth to be a mommy, and since my mom and MIL stayed home, I just feel thats what I should do. But, as I said above, that won't happen.

I'd be a housewife in a heartbeat! That eleven day vacation was heavenly! I could certainly find things to occupy my time.

As for DH, he'd stay home but he wouldn't actually do any housework!

I am a housewife and for the most part I love it. Sometimes it gets to me because everything falls on me but I love not having to spend what little time we get together splitting chores.

We do have small businesses (both of us) and I manage my own.

I daydream about this! I would love to be a stay at home mom, that's how I was raised...
OR I would love to work part time, maybe 3 days a week. I think that could be the best of both worlds.

DH is convinced that I would hate staying home 24/7. (yeah right!)
He would never be able to be a stay at home dad, he's such a type A personality that he would go stir crazy!

Luckily DH owns his own practice and works 3- 12 hour days, and a few hours on Saturday morning. His schedule is very baby friendly, whereas my career is not.

So right now we're hustling and saving tons of $$ so we have lots of options once we become PG.

Great question!! I don;t think I would ever want to be a full time housewife. I can't stay put and I love to be thinking and doing! BUT with that being said, I do enjoy being home and would love to work part time or have a job where I could work at home. I have actually been thinking about my current career and coming up with new ideas to change it because i am getting stale

I do not think I could ever be a stay at home Mom. I am working on my PhD right now and I love what I do. I have spent way too much time in school to stay at home. I love taking care of my DH but we split a lot of the responsibilities in the house and we plan to do the same when we have children.
