Money for the Photographer

Hey everyone! I am new to this site, I wish I would have used it when I was planning my wedding because everyone seems so nice and helpful!
Anyway I have a question and I was wondering if this sounded correct to you guys. After my honeymoon returned to get a message from the Photographer that my proofs were ready. I sent my husband to pick them up and the photographer would not release them until we paid our balance. I thought that the balance is usually due when you get your albums. Not to get the proofs. Does this sound correct?
I am just frustrated because I want to start my thank you cards!

This depends on the contract with your photographer

Each photographer is different...For us, a 2nd deposit was due when we picked up our proofs. Another deposit will be due when we order our album and final payment is due when we pick it up.

mine is the same as the above poster. check your contract to be sure though.

I would read the contract. I am sure that each photographer has different rules.

I had to pay my balance when getting my proofs...but then I added on more...so I still had to pay when I got the album!!!

I paid off everything owed when I got my proofs. Then I paid additional money for enlargements and addition when I got my album.

No, I paid my balance to get my proofs.

ETA: In addition, any extra features I ordered while designing my album also had to be paid in full before the production of my album

I think you would have to pay the $$ for the photography service and proofs before your get those. Any additional amounts that you paid for albums and enlargements should be do later.

Considering the fact that so many brides wait a long time to do their album, I wouldnt be surprised if most of the balance was due before the album got started.
