Most creative shower gift?

My friend is getting married over the summer and has not registered for much. I'd like to give her something a bit more creative than a blender anyway.
My brother's girlfriend created a Newlywed Date Book for us with cute quotes and pictures, and gift cards to various restaurants / movies, etc. We have used it so often, so I was thinking of doing something like that, or creating a basket of stuff for a newlywed survival guide (cookbooks, perhaps a subscription to Real Simple magazine, note cards, stamps, wrapping paper...random things that you don't realize you need them until you need them....)
But wondered if anyone had any ideas from your own shower, or stuff that could go into the basket?

I got a basket with 2 place setting of our china, 2 nice wine glasses, fancy napkins and candles and the card said something along the lines of not only using our china for holidays but to use it for us when we needed or wanted to be reminded of the everyday things that are special.

I also bought my friend her mixer and out it in a big metal tub that can be used as a cooler with margarite mix, pina colada mix, daquiri mix, rum, fancy glasses, fancy stirrers, those little umbrellas, chips and salsa, peanuts etc.

And my fave thing to make for showers is the corning ware cake. You take different sizes and start with the biggest on the bottom. You put the corning ware upside down on a cake plate or something like that--glue gun it in place. Glue gun the other pieces, in size order to make it look like a cake. Now you decorate it however you like. I usually use flowers or something as a topper and pearl strands and flowers around the sided as decorations. It is always a big hit.

My ladies did a really nice gift were they bought a wine rack and filled it with wine bottles decorated for different occasions, with different poems/sayings on them and each given to me by a different person at random points in the shower.
There was one for out wedding night (champagne), one for our 1st anniversary (also champagne), 1st married V-day (red wine), 1st Home (white wine), first married Christmas (red wine), a girls night, 1st baby (sparkeling cider)...

Had to post my funniest......
we played gift bingo.... and someone needed the flateware set to win.... and she kept whining about it. So my friend wrapped up a plastic knife and fork from the table and said you have to open this one next.

I had no idea why I got it, but I still burst out laughing when I saw it. After hearing the real reason, Ilaughed even harder!
