Movie Invictus

Movie Invictus

I saw this movie and was very moved. I feel like I am a student of history even as I age and grow.

As I was watching the movie I felt very overwhelmed by the story and what I could learn.

I also remember a quote I had heard of Nelson Mandella's quite a few years back.

When I was in school (5th grade to about 10th) I was teased. I was treated poorly. I was never cool and didn't really fit in well. Kids can be very cruel and they were to me.

As the years have passed I found myself mad at how I was treated. Then I met a dear friend who helped me realize that it WAS the past and is not who I am. He told me to let it go and forgive them. Forgiving does NOT mean I say it was ok for the way I was treated, but for me, I can move on and not waste any time on them anymore.

And then I heard the quote from Mandella. He said he forgave his captors. Because if he didn't, they still had power over him.

I will never again think back to how I was treated as a child. I no longer give them power over me...its Liberating.

So I find its not worth thinking about all these things that happened in my life, in my past. I have learned that I LOVE who I am an turned out pretty ok :)

And then tonight I saw Invictus. I close with the poem that helped Nelson Mandella got through his 27 years in prison.

I hope that if anyone is going through hard times now, and struggles with the past, can get strength from my story and this poem.

I will always be the captain of my own soul....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Invictus
The title is Latin for 'Invincible'.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
BUT I usually LOOOVE Clint Eastwood movies so I'm excited for this one too.
