I am sure I am not the only one, but all the rain we have had since we moved in, including a tropical storm, and we have never had any flooding, nor was there any sign of flooding, plus the previous owners said it never flooded and they were kids in the house, so we were sure it was a dry basement. (I am guessing they lied about that by the way.) We had tons of stuff on the floor - air conditioning units, fans, antique furniture (my friends), boat batteries (belonging to Jay's friends and our family), power tools. What a mess!!!
I spent all day and had to call out of work to pump the basement. Four pumps and its barely subsided, plus standing in the cold, wet basement all day I know feel sick.

Ugh Michelle sorry to hear this! It will dry out eventually, it happened to me also and it took about a week, but it finally dried. Run as many fans as you can down there to air it out. This rain is supposed to stop tomorrow and by Sunday it may hit 80!

Same with us over here! I don't know if you've done it yet, but the best thing to do is to put your pump(s) on timers. It's great, so you don't have crazy amounts of water in the morning! Just keep it going at certain intervals and it'll be fine! Mine right now is on 15 min every hour to keep it to just puddles!

The previous owners might not have been lying. Our basement never floods and it flooded yesterday. It was just too much water for any system to handle! Sorry you have a big mess on your hands!

Yeah but they lived here in the 80s and Gloria was the worst flooding LI has ever seen, so I would imagine it flooded then, unless they just left out an isolated incident.

Thanks, I have one pump that shuts off automatically if its below and its pumping to outside so I left that one on all night. The bilge pump and another pump I unplugged last night but they are plugged back in. We also have a vacuum that pumps out, but you have to stand down there for that so I will be back down there again after work tonight.
Its was about 2 1/2 inches when we started this at 2pm yesterday. It's at 1 1/2 now but that could be because the water table is dropping.
