I am crunching numbers left and right, we have looked at several foreclosed properties (all are in horrible conditions) the one that was something you could move right into he hated. NOthing is good enough for him in short sales.
So I am pleading with dh to look into co-ops or condo's BUT NO! I am not moving into another apartment. I want my own space shared with NO ONE. I agree I don't want it either but I am tired of having a landlord that I giving $1,475 a month to have her NEVER fix anything. Things are breaking down and nothing can get fixed. I show him properties out east where houses are lower and we can get something small but in a regular sale - NO, i want to live near where I work.
I FREAKING READY TO KILL HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's sort of how DH was when I was looking for an apartment. I know how it feels to have to pay money for something that doesn't have a yard and isn't attached to a whole other building.
He is going to have to compromise with something or else you guys will never get out of where you are!

for you! buying a home is so stressful! Just keep at it and you will find something perfect for you! We were originally looking at houses in Nassau but the property taxes killed us plus dh works at the edge of queens- so the commute would have been murder. We settled on a coop in queens and could not be happier. Its a two bedroom and we will stay here until after our 1st baby is born (some point in the future)
my dh was like yours, he wanted a house- so I just made appointments and had him look at coops- and he ended up falling in love with the development we are in- it has a tennis court, parks, etc and our coop is fully renovated- we just had to paint. maybe when you make your house appointments, slip in some coops/condos and see if he likes any.
my friend is selling a gorgeous coop in suffolk- I will fm you the info

I keep saying over and over again, yes maybe we can find a home but its a maybe for under 200k it needs some serious help, a co-op/condo it will be in great shape as long as we can find a two bedroom since we probably will have a kid in the next two-three years and want to have a second bedroom available since I highly doubt we would move again until another five years.

Just start making appointments for places. He might change his mind once he sees it.

I can understand your frustration, although we aren't looking right now even the discussion about where we are going to go is an issue. I try to tell him the further out the better our chances of finding something within our price range but he consistently says he won't move far away from his family!!! Ummmm we are still on Long Island and they all drive! My mom doesn't even drive and I am willing to go further if it will benefit our family. Can you get him to agree to at least compare what you can get further out east to what you can get where you are looking?
