My inlaws are coming to my house for the holidays from Virginia but dh has to work. Please give me ideas of activities & restaurants for Christmas Day.

So my inlaws & 11 yr old sil are coming from Virginia and we are having Christmas Eve at our home & dh will be here. On Christmas Day he will be home at 11 pm :( from work.

I wanted to take my inlaws and 11 yr old sil to do something very fun--money isnt the issue but my lack of ideas are.

This is my first Christmas without my own mom who recently passed away so I am grateful they are coming and I love them dearly but I really want to plan something special for Christmas Day. Any restaurant suggestions?? shows? etc??

Krystal, first off, I don't know if you posted about your mom before but I remember stuff you had mentioned about her illness
Congrats on the baby too!
On Christmas I am usually at my family's house and we basically just eat. Sometimes we play board games (well they're from Italy so the games are basically tombola (bingo), rummy and Uno lol. Sorry I don't have anything extravagant, but this is what we do and we have a lot of fun.

since youre 4 months pregnant not sure if youre willing to go into the city. I was gonna say maybe go see the tree, and go to serendipity.

Would you prefer to stay in LI?

Or maybe you can do something laid back. Go out to eat and then go to the movies. Or have a movie/game night at home.

So sorry about your mother

Thanks for the good wishes. I donated a kidney to my mom in July and she actually passed away from a freak accident after the transplant. So depressing.

I am trying to find something to do outside of the house. Maybe go see the tree in the city? I guess that depends on the weather too.

That is terrible about your mother, my thoughts are with you...you should definately do something to have a new fun memory at Christmas, and I think it's really special that with everything you have going on this holiday season, you want to make this something special for everyone.

That said, I think the tree is a really great idea. Where do you live? On LI?

You can go to Bryant Park they have little shops around (like a xmas village) and ice skating for the 11 yr old. 10 blocks down is the tree ... then you can get a bite to eat.

- Broadway show
- Deer park Tanger Outlets
- FAO Schawrtz

This weekend is going to be snowing so you are kind of limited. I would ask them what they prefer,
Good Luck and my thoughts and prayers are with you, I am so sorry for your loss i cant even imagine what your are going through!

What about ice skating at rockefeller? Can you do that on Christmas? Not sure.

Or skating on LI somewhere? You can go to see the old EAB tree - I think they call it the Reckson Plaza tree now ... and skate there I think?

Maybe Milleridge Village? Not sure but the shops there might be open in the morning or something and you could walk around there, it's cute.

Old Bethpage Restoration Village is another idea. Again, don't know if any of these are open on Christmas Day.

For dinner - Milleridge should be open ... I think most places are. There should be a ton of places in Garden City that are open. I love Waterzooi, they might be open. Seventh Street Cafe is supposed to be excellent too and Ruth's Chris is near you on Old Country.

So sorry to hear about your mom - how terrible that she went through a kidney transplant and then had an accident! May your Christmas be filled with new memories of love and joy!

Krystal,

First off big hugs for your loss. I am so sorry to hear about losing your mother

Here are some ideas
go to www.theatermania.com they have discounted tickets to shows
I
deas for shows:

Slava's snowshow (very cirque du soleil magical show. Kids will love it)

Shrek the musical (great reviews for the show)

In the Heights great show, hip hop inspired

To eat, you should take them someplace fun
John's Pizzeria in Time Square is great and is a very interesting space. It used to be an old church that they converted to a restaurant.

Virgil's in Times Squre; Delicious BBQ

well they went bankrupt a few years ago. Then some other company bought them i think and in 2008 they reopened but i know they are mostly doing FAO's inside of macy's, well around the country they did that.

If it is above The apple store, i have no idea what its like anymore bc i had no idea period lol. All i know is that everytime i drive by there or walk by i see the HUGE apple store, its pretty cool from the outside they also have the huge glass apple thing in the middle, this is what it looks like from outside. But i do get sad everytime i drive by bc its so weird not seeing it like it used to be and seeing apple instead.

Dh laughed at me bc i came home and said OMG what happened to FAO. I only noticed it this year.

this is the front of it now

not sure about during the day..a movie would actually be fun (and it wouldn't be as physical as iceskating)... definetly when evening comes i would go to a nice dinner. You can do Chao Baby and yes, John's in Time Square is really yummy! Tony's is another really good one..i highly reccomend it..there is one in Times Square, but the hubby & i usually go to the one on the Upper East Side...a bit less crowded/touristy...good food but still laid back & very 'family'. Chao baby is great if you want to stay on L.i..afterwards you guys can go back to your home, and like a pp said, board games really are fun it sounds cheesy - but i feel like they always leads to a really great time...lots of laughs..real family time that'll let u enjoy each other Some games we play are pictionary, taboo(one of my faves!) Cranium, Life, Apples to Apples, .... etc..

i am so sorry to hear about your mother there are many things in this world that there's no explanation for, but know that she is in peace & smiling down on u
