My new in-laws and the proof albums (rant)
We got our proof albums the week after we got back from our honeymoon. We showed them to my family and then brought them to my in-law's house a week later and left them there so they could pick 24 pictures for their album plus one enlargement for the photo frame we bought them.
Three weeks go by and we made plans for my parents to come with us to their house (a 2 hr drive for my parents, 1 hr drive for us) for a nice Sunday lunch. This was the first time my parents were going to their house.
The day before the lunch, his parents call to say they changed their mind, they're not going to cook for us because it's too hot out. They're taking us out to lunch instead. I was a little annoyed at this, because to me it made it seem that they couldn't be bothered putting themselves out enough to cook. Not to mention, they picked an ethnic restaurant (their ethnicity, not ours) and didn't consider if my parents could or would eat that kind of food. And, as always, they do it at the last minute. But I kept my mouth shut.
I asked DH to make sure they had chosen all their pictures before we get there because we're taking the proof albums back. They said they picked everything, don't worry.
So we make the drive in and when we get there, find that they hadn't picked the photos. And had the nerve to complain, how could they ONLY pick 24 pictures? As if we were supposed to print up an 800 proof album for them or something. And to boot, they do this in front of my parents who are now obligated to say, 'Don't be annoyed, let them have the albums for another week.' So we begrudginly agreed. Even though they lied to us.
They couldn't see us the next week, they were busy. So we made plans the week after (last week) but they cancelled at the last minute because his Dad wasn't feeling well. Finally, they came out yesterday for lunch.
They said they picked all the ones they liked but there was more than 24. So we could just choose their 24 for them out of the ones they picked. As if it's up to us to choose. Because they just can't be bothered to do what we ask of them. We told them we were going to make a DVD of all the original digital files so that they could reprint anything they wanted to.
We actually bought a DVD burner for this purpose but didn't think we had any blank DVD's. Why would we? We never had a DVD recorder before.
So we get back from lunch and tell his father that we don't have the DVD ready for him. But I had promised him earlier I would burn a CD of music for him so when I went to my computer to do it, I found a whole spindle of blank DVD's! We have NO idea where they came from.
When I showed them the spindle, his father immediately starts in, that we have to burn the DVD right then and there. DH tells him he doesn't even have the DVD burning software loaded, but he was hearing none of that. It will take 10 minutes! he says and forced him to burn all the pictures, right then and there.
10 minutes? Yeah. More like 45 minutes. While his Mom is lounging on the couch, complaining that she wants to go home and she's tired.
I just love that they made us, and my parents, wait for 2 months for those damn albums but OH when he wants something, we have to do it RIGHT NOW.
And the last kicker? After they left, we looked through which pictures they chose. We told them 24. How many did they pick? OVER 50.
Do yourselves a favor. If you suspect this might happen to you, set a date and tell them you are taking the albums back regardless of how many photos they did, or did not pick!
OK rant over. Now I can give these albums to my parents to stop their complaining!!![]()
