My turn for a rant - and another thing....updated

My turn for a rant - and another thing....updated

Ok I don't mean to sound like a b!tch, bc I really REALLY like my SIL BUT....she is pg & we are planning her shower. She is being SO selfish & greedy & unappreciative. Seriously. Its getting on my nerves. I KNOW all about pregnancy hormones but she's pissing me off.

Examples:
#1 - I showed her a few cute invitations on a website & asked her which she liked. They were moderately priced. She seemed uncomfortable so I said 'I will buy the invitations so don't worry about it.' She emails me the next day and says she found 'the ones' she HAD to have. Fine. But honestly, no exaggeration, they cost more (each) than my wedding invitations. They are 'designer'. And they were double what the ones we had discussed were.
So we ordered them blank bc she could NOT make up her mind on when she wanted the shower, etc... So I told her 3x to get me the details. She calls 1/2 hour ago with the details & says 'can you print them today?' I said 'I was going to use my work printer bc its better quality & the invites are at home.:' She gets all snotty & says 'I wanted them out by Tuesday. I guess THAT won't be happening.' No, it won't. Now shut it before I shove the $4.40 invitations up your a$$, ribbon & all.

#2 - She originally told me the shower was last weekend in Feb. So I plan Ella's 1st birthday party for March 9 (her b-day is the 5th.) Then she decided she wants her shower THAT day. Um no. That's Ella's birthday party. Tough sh!t. I already ordered the custom invites & booked freaking Elmo. Now her shower is the day AFTER Ella's & she said 'I hope everyone won't be tired.' Be tired? its a 2 hour party for a 1 yr old. Cut it out.

#3 - I went to Babies R Us with her to help with her registry. She picked out some cute stuff & I told her as she was registering that I would buy her crib bedding, which was one of the more expensive items (about $200). She THEN tells me that her cousin's gf (whom she is close with) wants to buy her that, but I can get her the car seat & stroller instead. Um, that's $400. I was aiming a little lower.

#4 - her aunt has decided to host the shower at her house. No one has really stepped up & talked about money but I have been offering things here & there. So she says 'aunt Roberta can't cook, so maybe you and Rob (DH) can get some catering from Gian Carlo's.' Oh, you mean that super expensive Italian restaurant that we went to for New Year's Eve? Ok, how about I bake a lasagna for you instead. Or a quiche maybe. Why are WE getting catering for 40 people from an expensive restaurant when MY MOTHER IN LAW OWNS A CATERING BUSINESS!!!

Keep in mind, she does have a sister and a mother. And friends. Its not like I am the only girl in her life. I don't mean to be rude, but I think she thinks since DH & I do kind of well, that there is no budget or something. She's 27 years old, never got me a shower gift and never gave us a wedding gift (even though she was a BM.). I let it go because all she ever does is complain how broke she is and she does babysit for us for free occasionally.

But I have given her ALL of my maternity clothes (thousands of dollars worth) 2 HUGE Rubbermaid bins filled with baby clothes, all of Ella's newborn toys, her swing, her bouncy seat. etc... The girl has CLEANED ME OUT and never says thank you. Oh, I also gave her a TV and a couch this past spring. Not even a thank you card.

Again, I love the girl, but her manners SUK.

Thank you
I feel better. Still pissed though. Need a drink. Or 5. Grrrrrrrrr....

**********************
ETA - AND Ella is very sick & she KNOWS this & is still on my a$$. Poor Ella hit 104 fever yesterday at daycare. We rushed her to the Dr who had to bag her for a urine sample. They think she has a UTI. Poor little thing.... She still has a 102.5 fever right now & she's lost 1/2 pound in 3 days. THE POOR MONKEY!

is this DH's sister?

if so---let him give her the business and let her know that you are NOT a cash machine--and just cause you guys do well doesn't mean you HAVE to shower her royal fcuking highness with things.

i can't STAND spoiled brats---i would let her know what's up. lol

Re: My turn for a rant

You do all that for her and not even a thank you from her???? I'd feel like this . I mean, I've never been pregnant, so I don't know how all those hormones go, but while my mom and I were planning my sister's shower this past year, if my sister acted like that, I think I would tell her to shut it or no shower!

Ugh - I am amazed you've lasted this long without decking her... I'd be in jail by now I don't even have any advice because it sounds like this girl can't even see past the end of her own nose and wouldn't listen to reason. I'm sorry you're stuck dealing with this!!

yes, DH's sister. She is over our house 3-5 nights a week for dinner. I cook for her, I send her home with food, I totally take care of her. She sits in MY chair night after night and hogs my laptop ALL THE TIME. Her DH is in the military & in Kansas or Arkansas or whatever so she is ALWAYS AROUND. And she never says thank you!!!!!!!!!

Re: My turn for a rant

Wait, I've got it!!! Let DH sell her old Rolex and use that to pay for her shower!!!!
Although she sounds like a Timex kinda gal so that may not work...

Totally kidding, but geez this is the canary in the coal mine, Caroline, shut it down now. I can tell you it gets WORSE after the kiddies are born, not better (i have a relative who's similar)....

Re: My turn for a rant

You have every right to rant.

Close your purse strings after the shower.
Send her to her MIL's house for dinner.
Hide your laptop when she's at your house.

Sounds like a moocher. How much would it cost for her to say 'Thank You' (and MEAN it) every once in a while....

Ugh! I freakin hate people like this!!!

In all honesty, I would speak to your own DH about this and ask him to sit her down and have a serious talk with her. I have a feeling that if she was AT LEAST appreciative of you that you would feel ten times better about the situation - so tell him he needs to let her know, nicely, that you guys love having her around and helping out is not an issue, but that she needs to learn to say Thank You - and mean it - EACH time you guys do something for her like giving her maternity clothes, toys, baby clothes, helping throw her shower, etc. And that she should really be careful about asking for things that are too expensive because no one, no not even her brother and sister in law, regardless of how well they do, are required to buy expensive things for her.

She may not realized what a spoiled brat she's being, so giving her the benefit of the doubt, I would have DH have a serious talk with her to see if that helps a bit. If it doesn't, then just stop being so generous. You have to because if not, she'll walk all over you and that's not fair.

I think that is why people used to keep showers a surprise...to keep the 'honoree' from driving the planners nuts!!!! Sorry she's being a PITA!!!!!

Re: My turn for a rant - and another thing....updated

first off, the most important thing, is you give ella all the time she needs from her mommy poor thing!!!

second, I hate when people do this, the more you give the more they want. you have to draw the line someplace, and let her know your pissed... everything you've done, is above and beyond, you gave her stuff that maybe you should have kept in case you had another, but you've put all of her needs ahead of yours, she should be so greatful! and if she can't be greatful, I'm sure you'd accept a simple thank you here and there.

If asking DH to talk to her is out of the question I'd start giving her a dose of her own medicine, start asking for more babysitting time, and when you come home, tell she can go home, no thanks...
And as hard as it might be, stop helping with her shower so much, from the sidelines, it looks like your gonna do all the work, and these other people are gonna come in and take credit for it or shes not going to be grateful or appreciate what you've done.

I feel bad that you have to go through this But kind people always get burned I'm sorry i have a lot of family like this, thats why i don't speak to them anymore

On the other hand though, its so extremly nice of you to help her and kinda look out for her, and if it was me, I'd be annoyed to, but I wouldn't be able to stop helping

OMg I hope your DD feels better soon. Is she on juice yet, can you give her some watered down cranberry juice?

As for the SIL, it sounds like you are breaking your back for someone who does not appreciate it. I would stop offering. Be nice, help with the party, let her sit, bt relax with the offering her help. It is my experience that someone who is always getting something for nothing, keeps taking and becomes less appreciative as times go on.
I do hope things get better
