My Update ...

Link to previous post for those who don't know the back-story

Ugh! So here's my latest update ....

THE GOOD NEWS:
The neurologist sees a lot of improvement on my left side. He thinks I might not even need the cortisone shot b/c I am getting better, he sees significant improvement. And he would not recommend surgery at this point, he sees no reason to operate if I am improving on my own.

THE BAD NEWS:
The neurologist says the pain on my right side is NOT related to the nerve damage or the herniated disc in my neck. Somehow I have managed to cause damage to my shoulder or something ... the doctor isn't really sure, but based on what he sees it is not neurological. It could be from overcompensating for my left side, who knows?! All I know is that its brought me to tears a few times in the last week, and wakes me up at night if I move the wrong way

So now its back to the Orthopedist ... I have an appointment tomorrow.

I'll probably have to go through PT again

Man, I really hope there is an end in sight .... I have been in pain for 5 months now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: My Update ...

okay - we need to be happy that there is some form of progress. I know it's bad news - but the fact that ONE side is improving is huge....

maybe the ortho tomorrow may be able to do something for you quickly or relatively quickly to help alleviate SOME of the pain....

i'm so sorry that you are dealing with this!!!!

Let us know how it goes tomorrow please!

Sorry to hear about your shoulder, but glad to hear the good news. Your shoulder could be hurting because of the compensation, which may be muscular, which coudl also be fixed by PT. Good Luck and hope you feel better soon.

I'm really happy to hear that he's seeing improvement! That's an AWESOME thing, especially since it means not needing surgery! Try to really focus on how great this is!

The right side - if it is a result of overcompensating, PT should definitely help. I'm having a similar problem with the muscles on my left side overcompensating for the tear in my shoulder so I've been going to PT and it's helping. What's helped MORE though, is the trigger point injections I've gotten - I had never heard of them before, not sure if you have. In case you haven't, find out if they can do them for you. Basically they put the injections into the muscles that are tense/tight/knotted or whatever to 'release' them. Seriously, I couldn't move my arm/shoulder for about a week and after the first time I got the shots, I IMMEDIATELY was able to move it - AND most of my headaches went away (I think the tense muscles etc in my neck/shoulder etc were causing them!). Obviously this may not even apply to you, but in case it does, it could be something to REALLY help.
