Do you have to go to the court and request a name change after your married? Or do you just have to go to the SS office.

just start with SS, DMV, and so forth. You already changed your name when you got your license. (marriage)

I called SS and asked them how to go about changing my name... He told me to go to the courthouse, but when I got there they laughed at me and told me that I only needed to go there if I wanted to change my alias. Not because I got married. Go to SS or DMV and then you can change all your bils from there. You could also change your name on your credit cards and some of your bills before hand Good Luck!

Go to SS first -- once they give you the receipt that says they changed your name, you can take that to the DMV and have it changed on your license, registration and title. Once thats done, you can change it on your bank accounts, credit cards, etc.

Check this out for info and forms to change your SSN:
Basically, just go to each office. You must show your marriage license and they'll take it from there.
You will need to go to: DMV (license, regsitration and title) Social Security (Just the name on your file changes, not your number)
By phone or mail you should be able to change: Credit cards Health insurance any benefits from work: i.e. pension plan, 401k, etc. etc. Passport (if it's just a renewal)
Also, if you are licensed professional (i.e. teacher, nurse, lawyer) you will have to change your name on your licenses or certificates.
I think that should be it.... well, that's all i did anyway!

Eta: I also changed my beneficiary (i.e. added my husband as the primary beneficiary) on my life insurance, pension plan, etc. through my job.
