What is the order of things I should do to change my name? I can't go on any weekdays to take care of any of this as Im at a new job and can't be taking off. Is the DMV ever openon a weekend or after 6:30 on a weeknight? How do I change my social security? Is that what I have to do first?

When I changed my name at SS they said that you can do whatever you want first, SS or DMV. You don't need one to do the other, you just need your marriage certificate.
The DMV near my house is open late on Thursday, but I live in CT. Check the DMV website, that should tell you.

Both DMV and SS in Jamaica open early

I did my name change at both last November and was in and out of each office in 15 minutes.

i believe every DMV has a late night....just check out their websites and see which night it is.
Social Security took me FOREVER. That office was a joke....i was there for 3 hours...
Just a side note - you do not get your new social security card right away....it takes a few weeks to get it in the mail.
In NJ though - for your license - you get that printed for you right then & there...

thanks for the help ladies!! ill see if there is a dmv and SS in Nassau thats open late one night! :)
Awww darn- they are only open till 6pm at the latest in nassau county! And I can't find info on any in Sufflok county... maybe one will be open 7 there. i dont get in from teh city till 6:15 so I can't do 6 and I dont get any vaca days or personal days till september. But I wanted to get it all done before then. :(

SS in Jamaica is not too far from the train station. You can walk or take a local bus that goes up Jamaica Avenue. Can you make a 'stop' to do your SS card and then continue on home ?

The DMV on Route 112 and the service road (I think its exit 64 is open until 7 or 8 on thursdays. SS is only open until 4 ( or 5) cant remember during the week.
