anyone kno if there is a fee to change your name through SS or DMV?

You have to pay at the DMV for a new license- I think it was $10.

social security is free - but keep in mind - you will not have your card - they take it and resend you a new one.
DMV - i had to pay -because i changed states (to nj) and my name :)

DMV was 10 or 15..nothing at SS...I just did it last monday!
You do need your parents ss#'s though...I had to call my mom from the office!
ETA: Jess...they didn't take my old card...they didn't even ask to see it! Did I miss something?

I didnt need my parents SS numbers??? Strange
I went in they gave me a new card-no charge
DMV yes but i changed states also so it was more.

Really? They took mine - i still had it from like 1987. I didn't need my parents' numbers either.

Really? They took mine - i still had it from like 1987. I didn't need my parents' numbers either.
yea...i kept reading on here that i wouldn't need them so i never thought to write them down or anything. When i got to SS in Mineola they handed me the form to fill out and i needed to list them...luckily my mom was able to answer her phone quick. I had my new card within a week. I have both my new card and my old card in my apt. right now.

I needed my parents for the form I had to fill out, but I didn't need my original card either....

You should only need parents SS number if you're a minor or if you've never had a card before.

Yea on the form I filled out it asked for my parents SS numbers too-but I didnt feel it out bc it said something to the affect of 'ominor child or filing for SS # for the first time'
thats so strange-I guess each SS office requires difference stuff maybe?
