Name change - Home Owner
I want to change my name But I bought my house with my DH when we were engaged so everything is in my maiden name? Do I need to change anything? Also, can I do First Middle Maiden New? No hyphen? Just make my maiden name like a 2nd middle name?
TIA!

Re: Name change - Home Owner
Yes you should. When you acquired title, you were probably tenants in common (50-50 ownership). Now that you're married, you'll want to change the tenancy to 'tenants by the entirety' (how title is held by a husband and wife. if one dies, it automatically does to the surviving spouse). To accomplish this, you and your DH can do a Quitclaim deed. The grantor section should read:
John Doe and Jane Doe f/k/a Jane Smith
The grantee section should read:
John Doe and Jane Doe, his wife
It can also contain a recital stating the purpose of the deed.
You can word your name however you legally want to hold title.
While you can do this on your own, you may want to do it through you attorney.
