Name Change Question - Girls that are NOT US citizens...

I went to the SS office today and they said I can't change my last name there until I change it with the immigration office first. Is that right???? (I was born in the Philippines and came to the US when I was 2)

i am a US citizen (going thru an immigration process in another country right now), but that sounds right. i have a friend and she just got married to a non US citizen and in order for him to get a SS card he had to be legal first.

it makes sense that you would have to tell immigration first, then SS, as that is where the country first learned of you being a citizen.
