Need Help from the Newlyweds about 'B Lists'

Wanted to know what you all thought about this idea - wedding is August 1st - I was thinking of sending all OOT guests the invites REALLY early (there are a lot-mostly relatives) and using an RSVP card with a different date - so if we get a lot of no's - we can invite more people when the regular invites go out - anyone doing this or did this? Would mid April be way to early to send out the OOT invitations - I was thinking - if I send them out - mid to end of April and have them RSVP by a month later - then I will know when I send out the regualr invites end of May...
Opinions please! TIA!!

I wouldn't only because in my experience people didn't respond in time. I had rsvp's coming in 2 days before my wedding. So I think it would be a double headache for you to send out two separate wedding invitations. Planning a wedding is stressful enough and I just think that doing this just adds on more things to your list that you already have to do...

Again this is only my opinion based on my experience.

I didnt have a 'B' list because if I want sure if I wanted them to come, then I just didnt invite them.

Personally, I think if there is someone that you dont know or like enough to put him on your A list, you should not invite them. Everyone knows weddings are expensive so there is no shame in not inviting someone. But inviting them as an add on is a little insulting.

do not rely on people sending back their RSVP's in a timely fashion. my OOT's were the worst - most did not book their hotel rooms until 2 weeks before the wedding. a RSVP date of May for an august wedding seems a little off to me, but i understand why you are proposing it.

regarding the A & B list - i am not a huge fan of that. honestly, i was a fan of it in the past. now that i have been through everything, i just don't like it. either you want people there or you don't. i always said i would have a B list, but honestly, when it came down to it, i wanted certain people there, whether or not guest X replies yes or no. i got lucky in that i got a lot more no's than expected, if everyone responded yes, i might feel differently.

I have to agree with the B list idea...

I invited everyone I wanted...(there was one add on...but an 'after thought'...she works with my mother...is best friends with my best friend's paretns - who were coming...and she let me observe her in her workplace)

Its not always a question of whether or not you really want someone there (A list) or if you really dont want someone there (B list)
For me we wanted EVERYONE there, but financially we couldnt so I had to make some sort of separation. When I started receiveing the 'Nos' I was excited because I was now able to invite more people.
I ordered 2 different response cards... Two different dates, this way those who got the invitations later didnt have to respond right away and pretty much had no idea they were on a B list.
To answer your question, I think April is a little early to send them out for an August wedding. For my October wedding I sent out the A list End of July and B list End of August.
